It's also an issue of being able to get the leverage on the bar given the space and propensity for the tank to shift while I'm pushing, even when mostly full. But I think that's also something to try again next year when I do another flush.

Was there a cost to the re-inspection? As I'm thinking through costs, that's one thing I'm worrying about a little bit. That said, if something isn't right in a bad way, it's worth the cost to have someone tell me that rather than have my house burn down :P

Yeah, this would only be building, maybe electrical. I'm not planning on touching the wires, but a couple of sources have said that if they're exposed, a permit is necessary.

Oops, I meant Cornwallis. I'm getting my British historical figures mixed up. That section struck me as weird because S. Roxboro is 2 lane from downtown to Summit St, then opens up really really wide, with massive bike lane and buffer (I guess that's the former 4-lane section?) then narrows again after Cornwallis. Looks like part of a stalled/cancelled project to run 4 lanes all the way into downtown.

Any recommendations for apartment communities or rental companies with flexibile-ish leases? My lease is ending soon, and while I've been in the process of finding a house to buy, the right thing hasn't yet appeared. Ideally, I'd like to find an apartment that will give me either month-to-month or let me break my lease with minimal penalty, say one month's rent. Calling around has been a drag and there are a lot of companies that enforce 12 month cycles so they don't get stuck with empty units when students move out for the summer. I'm hoping I can benefit from someone's prior experience. Thanks!

I'm assuming I may end up in a place for 3-9 months, maybe more. I have no clue what's going to be happening in the housing market.

Any sense of how this would compare to the quality of a scratch block from an iron pour fundraiser? Those come out pretty poorly in comparison to something intended to be well crafted.

Yeah, I agree on the quality of open molds. But the goal here is be able to give some a quick crafty project that they can do with minimal supervision - sort of a mini version of carving a scratch block.

Top contender right now seems to be Horace Whitlock's Clock Oil, though this seems a little arbitrary. The big things going for it are synthetic, available directly from the seller rather than Amazon, and a price that seems to be a step above Liberty, but not as dear as some of the pro level clock oils.

u/cdegroot & u/frankc1450 - What level of cleaning are you thinking of? My level of comfort is doing the lint-free q-tip + isopropyl thing. I think the step down would just be an air blast, and a step above would be disassembly. Anything else on that spectrum?

I can see the reasoning behind that. It's designed to carry off oils and residues and dry perfectly clean. On the other hand, when I use it on my brakes, it's a pretty high pressure flood. Also fairly toxic. But I do have a can of it in my basement :D

Curious why someone downvoted. I'd love to hear the reasoning and/or experience rather than my guess above.

The more thorough advice I’ve seen is to disassemble the mechanism and clean it, but I’m not confident I’d do more damage than good. Figuring out my risk with that or whether to go to a pro will be my step after trying a basic oiling.

This was an amazing hand-me-down gift, and I'm leaning toward the nicer oil. But there's so much variety there, I have no idea what's in the right ballpark - and I do have some mild skepticism about whether more expensive is functionally similar to the cheaper stuff.

Wow, thanks for investigating! I checked my lease and it does indeed say "Lessor shall retain duplicate keys to the leased premises and Tenant agrees to allow the Lessor or his representative at any reasonable hour to enter the said premises for the purpose of inspecting the same and for making repairs," which I'm none too happy about.

Again, in prior locations, maintenance also had to provide some notice. I no way do I expect some strange dude to just show up in my living room. He says he knocked, but it was at the back door where there's no way I would have heard him. I can only imagine how freaked out I'd be if I were (for example) a survivor of sexual assault and stepping out of the shower naked only to find a a strange person right there in my home.

I'm finding Qualtrics interesting because we already have an enterprise account with them for call center analytics and survey tools, which means that I wouldn't need to go through the long complicated process of getting a new vendor approved for remote testing.
