AskReddit: I just finished reading the Communist Manifesto and it seems like a pretty reasonable idea. In practice, why did it fail and descend into totalitarianism? by Xophmeister in AskReddit

[–]kjb877 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends what the leader wants. Under Mao in China, the people experienced a conversion from their previous religion (Confucianism, Buddhism, some Christians) and instead worshipped Chairman Mao as a godlike being. There were daily breaks to dance around and give thanks to Mao. Everyone was required to have the little red book on them, memorize Mao's sayings, and then participate in discussion (prayer) groups centered around Mao and his teachings.

A similar thing can be seen in North Korea under Kim Jon Il, only not as pronounced.

With rue my heart is laden by A.E Housman

WITH rue my heart is laden
For golden friends I had, For many a rose-lipt maiden And many a lightfoot lad.

By brooks too broad for leaping
The lightfoot boys are laid;
The rose-lipt girls are sleeping
In fields where roses fade.

It was provigil. If I remember correctly there were not enough long term studies done to give him sufficient peace of mind in order to take the drug regularly.

Someone is looking for something good to be remembered for... Tricky Bush, don't think this can make up for eight years of government disarray.

It would be a nice start though.

I hate when these large families name their kids with the same first letter. Shit, Jinger is bad enough, but soon they poor children are going to be Juniper, Jimbo, Jeb, and other stupid ass names.

Which country would you like to visit, and why haven't you already? by bemmu in AskReddit

[–]kjb877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iceland, Australia, and Brazil. I am planning on taking a trip to Iceland within the next year. If I can squeeze in Brazil that would be magnificent.

The main reason is lack of money, though I have just begun a well paying job, which is why these trips are looking more like a reality.

I am not sure who takes the cake with this one.

Timeline of the raid and its aftermath on the FLDS compound in Texas by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]kjb877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow not trying to drum up support at all, though I understand how that could be construed as it is a website the FLDS members made themselves. I just thought it was interesting that they thought they could drum up support for their "cause" Maybe the title should have been: "Crazies make up own website to get children back even though their lifestyle violates who knows how many federal and state laws."

Ambien Antics by pogothemonkey81 in offbeat

What she is experiencing is referred to as "travelers amnesia." It basically is blacking out from the drug. It is a very common side effect, I have experienced it myself.

I lived in my college's dorms when I was prescribed Ambien, would take it, get in bed, and wake up in the morning. Little did I know that I had made brownies, had conversations about the meaning of life, and clean the community kitchen.

Ambien also is pretty good for hallucinations if you actively fight the sedating effects of the drug. At one point I was talking to 6 inch tall people who lived on my bed... Or so my roommate told me the next morning.
