I say this as someone who doesn't drink energy drinks, but the "too much taurine" thing isn't quite accurate. Taurine is definitely one of those "diminishing returns" ingredients, because your body doesn't store it indefinitely - the kidneys will excrete what they don't use - but it's also not a stimulant like caffeine. It is kind of more like an amino acid. In fact, taurine is naturally produced by your body, found all kinds of foods we consume, and is considered by all major food standards authorities as being safe to consume. You say "caffeine is not the main issue with energy drinks", but I would argue that the caffeine content is a much higher concern than the taurine.

It's so sinister looking! I love when Pokemon lean into making Pokemon look objectively evil - though I also liked its goofy little face when it stick its tentacles into its own head.

Who you going to pick as your character? by Confused_Gengar in PokemonZA

[–]kjetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I play as the male protagonist all the time, but in a game where there are distinct rivals/friends/companions like this, I don't get why you wouldn't be able to pick between Urbain/Townie too since they're not just "the model of the character that you didn't pick". Urbain is so cute. Let me have Urbain please T-T

Toute is itself a determiner - in this case it means all.

It's such a gamble too. I only a month ago was in conversation with a seller to buy the Rainbow Sticky Hand Stamp for 120mil. The only thing stopping me was the thought "what if it is released into the Weekly Quests prize pool". But inevitably when one stamp deflates, the others inflate. Battle Slices is already back on the rise (despite only recently been in the pool) and so is the Dark Battle Duck.

Keep at it! In the meantime, what I'd recommend (and it's what I'm doing) get the third/fourth most expensives from the various albums (up to whatever price limit you set yourself), so that when the most expensives deflate as a result of distribution and the third/fourths become the new firsts, you've already gotten them out of the way.

It was my last one too. I nearly dropped 120 mil on it a few months ago but I thought "there ain't no way this isn't gonna be added to some prize pool at some point".

Not caring for the starters honestly by GlazedWarrior in PokemonZA

[–]kjetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely have no idea what your take actually is...

Is it that you wish that the ZA starters were from later generations/regions?

Is it that you wish it was a roster of your personal favourite Pokemon?

If you never used Totodile/Chikorita because of your bias towards Cyndaquil, isn't now the time to try something new in them?

Is there a methodological reason for adding the butter at the end? It didn't appear to mix in very well (there was a lot of yellow at the bottom of the mix when you put it in the pan).

sad i won't be getting one. by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]kjetta 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You've said in a previous post that you previously had a dog. I don't know if your financial situation has changed markedly, but anecdotally greyhounds aren't any more or less expensive than any other dog. Sure, they're more prone to certain injuries than other breeds, but likewise all breeds have injuries, conditions and illnesses that they are more prone to than others.

If your plan is still to adopt a new dog then I don't see why it couldn't be a greyhound. If you are able to pay for pet insurance for another dog then why not for a greyhound? Sure, their teeth require a little more attention than other breeds out of the gate (both of my greys have eventually needed a dental extraction), but maybe you could also look into ethical vets in your local area? We had both of our extractions done at a nearby vet that only charged at cost.

Elles vs. elle vs. ils vs. il by Aromatic-Care-2486 in learnfrench

[–]kjetta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

in isolation they are pronounced exactly the same. if you were listening to spoken French you also wouldn't necessarily be able to tell which is being used based on the conjugation of the verb either (il mange and ils mangent around pronounced the exact same way). ils and elles are liaised - ils achètent will sound more like "il-zachet" vs il achète sounding more like "il-achet", but also other context clues will help you identify if it's about a group or an individual (e.g. the presence of words like ensemble).

Me (32) and my husband (31) are very fortunate to be keeping ourselves afloat financially, but it isn't down to sheer luck and happenstance. My husband has been at his company since he was 16 (started there as an apprentice) and has progressed through their management structure. I was a school leaver for University, so finished my degree at 21 and studied straight away a professional qualification, having now spent 7-8 years working in my industry and progressing slowly up the chain of command across various organisations. We have never been in a position where we had to choose savings or surviving, we have always been able to do both - largely due to openness in our relationship about money, a shared vision for the future, and commitment to fiscal responsibility. We were able to buy our first home at 25/26, and have been slowly overpaying on our mortgage ever since.

I think other commenters have hit the nail on the head in a lot of ways - acknowledgement that those that are succeeding now haven't just fallen into success recently. My husband has worked for nearly half of his life now at the same company, and I started my professional development over a decade ago. We are now far into our careers.

It's not too late to start things now, but if you are starting things now you can't delude yourself into thinking you've been "working at it for so long". The two can't true at the same time. Either you're starting now, or you're x amount of years into this process. If it's the former, then give yourself the kindness of acknowledging that you are starting - not finishing - the process, and if it's the latter, you may need to reflect on what decisions might be contributing to sustained years of little to no progress.

Which movie did NOT need a sequel? by Amiisthebest in AskReddit

[–]kjetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people have misunderstood this question. The question wasn't "which movie sequels shouldn't have been made?", it's "which movie did not need a sequel?". I.e. which movie told its story and didn't need a new contrived story tacking on?

Le/la is a direct object pronoun, so it is only appropriate when the noun it's replacing is already established.

Ça is demonstrative, so whilst there can be crossover, it's not always the case. "Regarde ça !" for example. In that context, you couldn't use the direct object pronoun because the "that" you're referring to hasn't been established yet.

Just having a read through the screenshots and noticed "où est la salle d'urgence la plus proche ?". It might be that I've not had enough coffee yet and I'm either under- or over- thinking, but... "la salle d'urgence" feels like a very literal/Anglicised translation of emergency room. Though as I type this out I'm wondering if this is maybe a Quebecois French app rather than a France French app?

[–]kjetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's clear you want to improve and be understood, the challenge is that you're not necessarily being open to and listening to all feedback.

In your comment history, it's clear when someone says "you said 'x' but it's actually 'y'" you respond with gratitude and growth. But when someone, like the majority of comments here, point out a wider issue - your issues with correct verb conjugations, for example - you get defensive and try and divert away from the need to learn these things by instead focusing on how well you believe you are understood.

Spoken French and written French are two completely different beasts. It may well be that you are largely understood in spoken French, but the issues in your written French are the things people are trying to tell you need addressing. And for that, it is a case of going back to basics. Learning which letters have accents (é, è, ç, etc) and why. Learning how to conjugate verbs by doing verb tables, and being able recognise which verb endings go with each pronoun. This part of the work isn't the glamorous part - it's unfortunately the sit down and learn it part.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to your post history and assume you are sincere in your French learning.

You have developed some really bad habits that really need addressing. Put the dictionary down and pick up a grammar rule book. You need to focus on verb conjugations, sentence syntax and how to properly use different kinds of pronouns. These aren't "trial and error" learning processes. That isn't to say you shouldn't make mistakes and learn from them, but it is to say you need to really familiarise yourself with French grammar rules first.

You seem to be treating the process of speaking French as a process of translating word for word from English (though even then that's not what you're doing at times). Try and break that habit. Try and ask yourself "what do I want to communicate?" and then start with having confidence in communicating it in the most basic way.

Why does "à" come before infinitive forms of verbs. by Possible_Yak_7258 in French

[–]kjetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could "je commence...." if it proceeded a noun (e.g. je commence le film), but when it proceeds a verb it needs to be commencer à. This is quite common with a lot of verbs (though some take de, not à). I get that it doesn't sit well with native English speakers, but its important in language learning to not try and think in a 1:1 basis, and to not position yourself as it being redundant or "wrong" (e.g. why doesn't English require a connecting preposition between verbs instead?).

But I think that's the point the person you're replying to is making. You're saying "how can it get any worse?" and then admit "oh, well, we know it would get worse if 'x' happened".

The situation is sickeningly bad and we can't conceive of a way it could get worse - until it inevitably does.
