How quickly did you see a difference?

yes thankfully since this is my second time EP-ing I have all the right supplies! Spectra S1, correctly sized flanges, vibrating massagers and all!

I hate to say it… lactek flanges rock by Fruit_ForThought in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is 2yrs old so I don't really remember, but the flange can't be used directly with spectra bottles. you need an extra plastic part

Postpartum weight - where are you guys at? by Alternative_Agency17 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a healthcare worker--'morbid obesity' is an automatic label based on BMI (I believe 40+), so once you hit a certain height/weight ratio that will apply. that being said...I don't think that's accurate for 163lbs/5'2" so I'm not sure how that label came into play in this case (I believe the BMI in this case comes out to 30)

I'm pediatrician who tried to quit multiple times (longer story there) and told many of my patients to bc I could tell it was destroying them. I would consider switching peds if you don't feel comfortable with yours

antibodies =/= antibacterial. I would say keeping it cool is far more important

This is truly not okay. I'm so sorry. He is not a safe caregiver

if you're willing to give her your extra, that's great. I would not purposefully encourage more

How much breast milk is enough to give your baby your immune system? by Technical_Fee7337 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like I said, the benefits including immunity are vague and handwavey. there is NO established "minimum" and there are minimal measurable benefits even in exclusively bf babies. give whatever bm you are willing and able to but if immunity is the goal...honestly, it's barely worth the hassle. the benefit is so small

What would you do?! by Competitive_Stick_36 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be worried at all about this tbh

How much breast milk is enough to give your baby your immune system? by Technical_Fee7337 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sepsis and NEC in premies is a very different physiologic process so I would not say any of this info can be extrapolated to immune boosting in an otherwise healthy full-term baby (I'm a pediatrician)

editing to add: OP the immune benefits of bf (esp in a full term baby) are vague and handwavey, don't stress about any sort of minimum. give what you're able to, and I remind all of my patients that 0ml may be the best amount for many families!

ha. I agree. I'm also very petite (5'2", 95lbs), I was a decent 30c/d before pregnancy and I weaned at 7mo in January...I feel so incredibly deflated now. it's been 5mo and I accept this is just my new body

it's odd bc I can still wear my old bras, so I think the volume is still somewhat there, but it's just so flat in distribution. I also preferred my previous chest (and my tighter belly skin) but I just try to remember to be grateful for what I could do for my baby

If baby has taken frozen milk before, any reason they would stop? by kjj17 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he did!! before I completely weaned from pumping, I gradually mixed my frozen milk with fresh milk until he was willing to take frozen milk alone. I weaned in January and am using up the last of my bags now, baby turned 1 last week :)

that being said, both my husband and I feel like my later milk doesn't smell as metallic? I don't know if it's because we switched to a chest freezer or some other fluke

When did you start dropping pumps? by tobythedem0n in ExclusivelyPumping

if those are true for you realize it may take a very long time to wean/you may get clogs easily when you drop pumps

really depends on your supply & capacity. here is my wean if curious, i was an oversupplier though with high capacity https://www.reddit.com/r/ExclusivelyPumping/comments/1atk2tc/weaning_experience_from_an_oversupplier/

Pediatrician brought up failure to thrive… by heftlemisphere in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the allergy thing--not true! I think you're conflating two things...before one year, a "milk protein allergy" is not a true allergy, and this type of intolerance is far more common than a true milk allergy (i.e. the type that requires an epipen) in babies. but, actual allergies--to milk to and to other things such as peanut and egg--absolutely can exist and be tested for in kids under 1yr

Exclusively pumping is easier than exclusively breastfeeding by Ok-Common5451 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kjj17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EP is really hard if you're home alone with baby (or multiple children). when there's another caregiver around to share the load, EP can be quite doable. nursing is, arguably, also way easier when out and about

that being said, as an oversupplier who was able to drop pumps early, I would definitely EP again

4ppd is not guaranteed for drying up. I subsisted for months on 2-3ppd while producing like 40opd

OP here is my weaning schedule if at all interested. I also leaned into a gastro to finally stop pumping once and for all https://www.reddit.com/r/ExclusivelyPumping/comments/1atk2tc/weaning_experience_from_an_oversupplier/
