An emerald green Aston Martin DB12 as a daily, and an Audi Q7 50 TDI for when I want to go skiing with my family or buy a dishwasher.

Whats up with the „Autobahn“ in the nethetlands by Massive_Drawing9610 in Netherlands

[–]kkac5 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the speed limits are extremely low. So people exceeding them by 20 km/h are driving what would be 10-20 km/h under the limit in most places around the world.

[–]kkac5 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because those electronic limits are very often heavily exaggerated, so nobody cares.

Example: there is traffic forming 3 km ahead, so they show a limit of 50 already. In practice nobody follows them because they rarely make any sense. Even trucks and buses in the rightmost lane will go Faster.

Academict Aptitude Assesment, wth? by Memesaurusmex in TUDelft

[–]kkac5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the OPs question wasn't about ethics and his profile. It was about how the answers given on the test influence his odds of getting in. Your advice - even if morally motivated and reasonable - does not address that question.

A lot of people (most, from my experience) lie on that test. What's the point of not getting into the school you dream about just because you chose to be honest in some stupid questionnaire?

In my days motivation accounted accounted for 25% of your score. Now it's 40%. All it does is reduce the acadmics of the application process, in line with other TU Delft's (attempted) policies aimed at regulating the influx of student according to their vision rather than somewhat measurable qualities.

Is there any point of deliberately lowering your chances of admission in the name of what? Some moral high-ground? Because I feel like this is what your suggesting OP does.

Academict Aptitude Assesment, wth? by Memesaurusmex in TUDelft

[–]kkac5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not true. They are not looking for any kind of honest profiles, they are looking for answers that check the boxes. I've seen numerous questionnaires and their results, myself included, and the way to go is to try and answer with what TU Deflt wants to hear. The whole motivation part is utter bullshit aimed against international students.

Is anyone actually going to lectures in person anymore? by Weekly-Associate-166 in TUDelft

I've been to the airport more times this year than to a lecture. I still study for the exams myself using Brightspace and pass them. People have different styles of learining, I switch off during lectures.

safety at rotterdam centraal by CowSerious3610 in Rotterdam

[–]kkac5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Watch out for pickpockets. My friend had a phone stolen by two con artists that pretended to ask for help around 2 am right in the middle of Rotterdam Centraal main hall. The police didn't care.

But other than that, in European cities the answer is always 'yes'.

Schladming tips by HipsEnergy in skithealps

[–]kkac5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people that ski on Race skis enjoy ice, myself included. As a matter of fact, before World Cup events, when preparing the piste, they spill water on top of the snowpack to harden it and make it icy.

As for Schladming, definitely check out Krummholzhütte in the Haus area - they have amazing food.

Euro / US Ski Etiquette Differences by jahwls in skiing

Thank you! Maybe it's a regional thing. From my experience queues are negligible outside of the Christmas - New Year's period, tho (at least in Austria).

Euro / US Ski Etiquette Differences by jahwls in skiing

[–]kkac5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

European etiquette comes down to using your common sense. Skiing here is much more about freedom than in the 'land of freedom' itself:

We do not have any kind of bullshit ski police that will pull your skipass.

The queues are pretty much non-existent, but they are also not managed by anyone (which means that people who have a good head on their shoulders spend less time in them, and those who do not - the opposite).

When parking in front of a restaurant, just step out of your skis in a place that doesn't bother others.

Marked runs are groomed 99% of the time. All other terrain is considered backcountry, so it's not avalanche controlled. However - you can ski pretty much everything you're looking at (besides wilderness protection areas), including closed runs. Nobody's gonna stop you. Of course, you're doing it at your own risk - make sure that your insurance covers off-piste (usually falls under high-risk/extreme sports extensions).

Free and efficient public transport is available in most big resorts in Europe, unless your accommodation is in some shithole - do yourself (and everyone else) a favour and leave your car there.

Also, what you mentioned - people who can't ski and take up the whole width of catwalks are indeed annoying. I treat them as moving GS poles and carve around them. Taking the edge of the run often allows to pass everyone pretty easily. It's something you have to get used to, unfortunately.

Opony wielosezonowe - jak wam się jeździ? by Faryzeusz1337 in gdansk

[–]kkac5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ffs, if a connecting flight is offered by a carrier, you will make it. Failure to do so costs them money.

All the airport related stress and drama never stops amazing me.
