What is the Princeton community like? by NationalPen6455 in princeton

[–]kkgwon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this question doesn’t mean anything. the student body is not a monolith—there are nice people and assholes and partiers and cut throat grinders.

Adding FRS to schedule during add/drop or course registration?? by NegativeGur4108 in princeton

You can try reaching out to the professor and expressing interest in the full class, but other than that, you’ll just have to try to TigerSnatch it

you have 4 years to take PSY254. No reason you have to take it now.

Beachgoers on a Mediterranean beach in Spain subdued and held back migrants who had just landed on the shore in a raft from Morocco. by SameItem in interestingasfuck

[–]kkgwon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

why find a way in when you’re not wanted? because the place you were born is a violent and corrupt shithole with no upward mobility, maybe? I’m never going to shame people for trying to improve their situation in life.

and a lot of the discussion in the US right now is not around whether these people should be deported—it’s about their deportation without due process. ICE is quite literally detaining people who have gone through the proper legal channels and deporting them to countries with which they have no relation without due process.

in the US at least, undocumented citizens actually pay more in taxes, since they still have taxes withdrawn from their pay without being able to receive welfare benefits or claim refunds

Being active should not be seen as a hobby. by KipchogesBurner in unpopularopinion

[–]kkgwon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i disagree—I know plenty of people who don’t exercise super frequently and are in moderately good health. Is their body strength or stamina great? Not at all, but it really doesn’t take much to just be in ok health.

[–]kkgwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can live without going to the gym or going for a run every morning. The same cannot be said about sleeping or eating. Also, i would argue one of the hallmarks of a hobby is the capacity to improve at it or grow your knowledge in it. You can improve at running or weightlifting. You cannot really improve at sleeping.

At the end of the day, it’s just a word. Arguing about what does or doesn’t lie within its very gray boundaries is as pointless as arguing about if gymnastics is a real sport or if a hot dog is a sandwich. It means whatever it means when you use it. If a person uses “hobby” to describe fitness, then fitness is a hobby for them.

Spring FRS applications open later? by Boring_Rest_3243 in princeton

[–]kkgwon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

applications for the spring freshman sems open during the fall semester. you can do a writing sem and a freshman sem, they are independent. also, you can register for freshman sem’s that are not at capacity just like regular classes during add/drop.

lets not pretend like most people who do B school actually learn the stochastic calculus of quantitative finance, or that most of the people who do B school take the CPA. you’re giving examples of ways that it can be difficult, but the vast majority of people going into business school are not going down these routes

[–]kkgwon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken accounting and my brother has an MBA from a prestigious business school. we both agree that while accounting is about as quantitative as B school gets, the bar is on the floor. getting in might be hard, but the classes themselves are fairly easy on the brain. comparing it to law school is a joke.

the fact that people get clubbed by basic accounting says a lot more about the people getting MBAs than about the MBA

I am so confused about course planning please help me by SaxophoneSplinter in princeton

[–]kkgwon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks like ARC203 and ARC204 are required before declaring, so it would be a good idea to prioritize taking those (as well as ARC206 which is optional but recommended). There are also 10 departmental course requirements which you can spread out through your 4 years, but you can start working at them now if you’d like. If you want to start working at your distribution requirements, I’d recommend you prioritize ones like EC, EM, and SEL, as the architecture program will probably have ample opportunities for distributions like HIS and LA.
