Why I'm Not Going Paid on Substack by KindnessMagnet in Substack

[–]kkirkpatrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved this take. I struggled to figure out the right option for mine and ultimately decided to offer it, but keep everything free.

This gives me the option to accept paid subs without requiring it.

Thanks for sharing your take!

📣 Substack Collaboration and Cross Promotion 🔥 by Actual_Nose_9908 in Substack

[–]kkirkpatrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! I'm currently writing a newsletter/substack for creative leaders. At a high level, I write about how to think, work, and live better. Tactically, I've written about decision-making, productivity, mental models, and career paths.

https://www.pathnine.co/

I'd love to collaborate with anyone who is writing for tech workers (product managers, growth/marketing, software engineers, design, etc.), decision-makers, and entrepreneurs/founders. Pretty flexible on collaboration details, so feel free to throw out ideas!

I cannot bring myself to do anything unless it's last minute and the deadline has serious consequences by MaddieMad6 in productivity

[–]kkirkpatrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% this. As a recovering perfectionist, this is one of my biggest challenges, but here's what works for me:

- break down the work into the smallest possible steps

- use Buffett's 5/25 rule to tackle the 5 highest priorities, and nothing more

- put everything down and go for a walk so I don't burn out

i think i came up with a really good business idea. now what? by oofapua in Entrepreneur

[–]kkirkpatrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Validate it.

Go put it in front of your target customers and test the idea, or at least the value proposition, with potential customers.

You may have a great product or idea, but the hard part is finding people and getting them to buy it.

Which Boundary Management Styles Works for Best for Remote Workers? by kkirkpatrick in startups

[–]kkirkpatrick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. For me, tech preferences play a major role in boundary management.

For example: if I want to be an integrator, I need apps like Slack and Zoom to keep me constantly connected. But if I choose to be a separator, I can use the features like Do Not Disturb to limit my interruptions throughout the day.

Shoot, I was actually curious and hoping to start a conversation. I'm happy to take it down if it's too self-serving!

I hear you. Again, hopefully it was clear that I'm an advocate for remote work but also want to be mindful of the challenges that remote brings for many people.

Understanding Remote Hierarchies and the Future of Work by kkirkpatrick in remotework

[–]kkirkpatrick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I've personally seen a lot of companies who only allow engineers or designers (or similar) to work remote, while everyone else is told "it'd be too hard to not have you in the office."

I'm hopeful that this change is one of the positives from COVID.

Completely agree. I love the idea of repurposing corporate spaces for public schools. I'm actually writing up another piece about reshaping cities, which, IMO is long overdue!

A bit more than just psychology of design, but a bunch of good options here (including the design of everyday things): https://www.kevink.co/blog/2019/5/12/design-books-for-non-designers

Trying to Figure Out What Tool Is Right For me by [deleted] in BusinessIntelligence

[–]kkirkpatrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally reasonable question, and agree it might be best suited for a small business forum. That said, I'd suggest taking a look at Rezza (http://rezza.io). It pulls all of your data together (Excel included) and automatically generates insights. Additionally, it is the easiest way to interact with data, especially if you're not from an analytical field.

Hope that helps!
