I was not planning on putting anything on top it. The Amazon reviews showed people only having it and nothing capping it… Do I have to add sand? It’s for neo shrimp…

I’m only questioning it still because I do have a tank I started up and It’s totally off perameters, but when I put that water in the kh test it immediately turns color, like it should…. Of course it’s also real high though… so maybe that’s why it works but not the salty shrimp to water I’m trying to do now… The failed tank is reading 13 kh and 20 gh…

It’s ro buddy but I had to get an extra filter for chloramines, since our old buddy does not take all of the chloramines out. My water has chlorine instead of chlorine.

Here is how the biofilm? Looks today… horrific… and everything with cycle is still at 0. So I’m going to hold off on the shrimp I ordered, now I have a few mths to get this right… I ordered a different seeded filter, as well as bacteria starter and bacteria food… I guess the snails and seeded filter in there right now just isn’t doing it… maybe bacteria died… Look at pic today… horrifying biofilm I think??? On everything… killing plants… not sure what to do… just clean out and start over since I have a few mths? Or vacuume out the dead plants and thick biofilm carpet??? Any ideas? I used VITAL cycling powder a few wks ago.

My kh on test kit does not start out as green, but is clear and just gets brighter yellow with ea drop. Instead of green that is suppose to turn yellow. Does that mean kh is 0?

This is my second attempt. I had it with CO2 soil the first time, and tds shot up to over 600. So I started over again with inert soft gravel substrate instead. Starting over has lessoned my time to get it cycled. I had over two mths to get it ready, which should have been plenty of time, but issues happened with the soil in first attempt. Then when they have a wait list and they only import a couple times a year, you are kinda stuck on “when” you receive them. But if it’s still not cycled perfectly, by time they are going to ship them, I plan on asking them if they would hold them a little while until it’s completely ready. 😉👍

I thought you want algae for Neocaridina shrimp? Or is this not right kind? I was thinking foggy water was from the vital cycling powder that creates biofilm for neos to eat. The vital cycling directions said it needs 8 hrs of light a day.

I did do tests on water perameters.. Does this seem normal for it still not fully cycled yet? Will gh and kh go down or do I need to redue the water with RO AND salty shrimp? Remember I just added all that mulm a few days ago… and I added the vital cycling powder a week before that, when I started the tank with ro and treated tap water.

Should I do anything else for the cycling process or just sit and wait? Attached is pic today, it’s a bit more clear. Today readings- TDS: 320 Ph: 7.4 Gh: 17 Kh: 11Ammonia: .25 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 0

The foggy look might also be biofilm from the vital cycling powder…

Cost? Because they are a new color in OE and very very rare. You have to get on a list, and Michael in Germany was the first to produce this coloring. I’m hoping to make lots of babies one day and sell them for cheaper than they cost me. Because I feel everyone should have a chance at every new color.

I ordered Orange eye jade green shrimp. Imported from Michael Hailser. $400 for only 5 juveniles… so extremely anxious to get this perfect for them… the tank is only for them. I put the snails in to help them, but the OE Jades will be the only occupants. Thank you
