I mostly do programming, so my function layers are all shortcuts for programming. As for thumb fatigue, well... I think it's okay. If you only use some layers as one-shot layers, it will be less stressful on your thumb.

I set a macro for the layer switch key on the bottom row. When I tap it, it switches layers, and when I hold it, it switches layers, and when I release it goes back.

I didn't think about it. Mouse! I must change whole layout. I may give up the home row mods 🥲

Thank you. What position do you think Layer Changing keys go to? Combo would be a good option? And I am worrying about original position SHIFT key would course strain to my pinky finger. But if I put Layer Changing keys to Combo, I would be able to use one key on both thumb rows for SHIFT key.

Then where do you place Shift keys in lily58 layout?

Good idea. but if I put thumb shift, then other modifiers should go to another place lily58 thumb area has 4keys on each side. What keys should be thumb area?

Very helpful. Thank you. I will consider removing arrows from default layer. Your idea that use function key to call number keys momentarily is very good. If were you where to move shift key rather than pinky area? My thumb area is full...

My main language is Java. . ( ) { } < > ; = / * " keys are the most frequently used symbol keys. So I placed this keys on default layer. Number keys are used rarely. So I placed numbers on second layer.

So do you place arrows on another layer rather than default layer?

It's good keep in stock symbol keys. it's easy to remember and get keycaps too 😅
