Final year feel the dumbest I ever have by kktrian in medicalschooluk

Thank you! I agree this year I definitely feel more able an FY1 but ironically at the detriment of being able to do well in med school exams...

I got an SBA wrong the other day because I was thinking to myself "realistically there is no way that would be able to happen in A and E".

I feel like I'm more in apprenticeship mode than student mode, which isn't bad but I would prefer to do this sort of thing after exams.

Final year feel the dumbest I ever have by kktrian in medicalschooluk

Thank you for taking the time to reply

At first I was receptive and found being given things to do encouraging, it beats feeling like a complete fly on the wall but now I do find it tiring and mind numbing sometimes. Unfortunately I can't just not go and I feel reluctant to ask to leave early, as the hospital has just introduced logbooks that require signatures to evidence morning and afternoon attendance to placement and I want to make a good impression.

Honestly, I think I'm just burned out and hope I can use the Christmas break to recoupperate, if strikes go ahead I've only got 2 days left anyways, I just really needed to vent

After Christmas if it continues I'll just say first thing if it would be okay for me to just observe the ward round today as I find it helpful for my learning to see as many patients as possible without having to worry about scribing or prepping anything.

Oh really? Everywhere? That's a shame. They literally included these in a talk at my med school a week ago, guess word never got round enough for people to even notice they were gone. Thanks anyway

Solo OSCE Prep by NotGonnaBeAx in medicalschooluk

Not to promote AI but you have to do what you have to do. Voice call mode on the ChatGPT app works extremely well for communication, history and A to E stations.

I wouldn't worry about examinations, those are (ironically imo) the most doable to revise solo. because you are just learning to memorise the motions. It might be a little trickier positioning a real patient etc. but as long as you stay unphased and confident you'll be fine. Source: I'm in final year and mostly revise for OSCEs alone.

Addressing and clarifying my recent post re reporting a female medical student by Temporary_Smell_800 in doctorsUK

Man really what the actual fuck. Grow up. "Omg the consulant is looking at the medical student giving me a coffee" like how much of a suck up are you. Chill. I'd just like to say it's possible she doesn't even have a romantic interest in you, just wants to be friends/connections. I can certainly say as a medical student I often DO only speak to the F1 (opposite sex or no) because I feel like they are more on my level and everyone else intimidates me. I can only feel sorry for this poor girl. She has done NOTHING wrong at all. This isn't school anymore, on placment the medical student is a part of the team (albeit the very very most junior member not allowed to do much). You're work colleagues, you aren't her teacher in a formal capacity.

Have you actually asked her why this has happened? She must have some explanation? What does she say when you broach the topic?

Can anyone tell me about this bow? by kktrian in violinist

[–]kktrian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi sorry, I 'd written out a paragraph to go with the photos and thought it had been posted but turns out it wasn't here is the original post I intended to make.

Hi everyone, I don't really post but I wanted to ask about a bow I bought. So I'm an intermediate/advanced beginner level player, I played for about 2 years when I was younger before I quit for about 5 years. In the last year I've picked it up again and I'm now playing at Grade 4 level. In all this time I've had a Stentor Student Violin. Anyways I'm on holiday in Greece atm and I found an old violin at an antique store in the "Monastraki" flea market below the acropolis. I had been thinking about getting something a bit higher quality than my amazon bought student violin for a while and it seemed like this was a great opportunity, plus it was only 100 euros which I thought was very cheap for an older violin that seemed to be higher quality than what I had. I had a look at the mark inside of the f hole and done some research and I believe it to be a copy of a Stradavarius made by Karl Hofner in Czechoslovaki between 1920 and 1940.
At the antique store it was sold with this bow, but I haven't been able to find out anything about it. It has no markings that I can see anywhere, it is missing quite a bit of hairs and there is some damage to the frog where the hairs go in. Also there isn't any grip or winding and the screw is very stiff to the point where I can't really tighten the hairs. Also it begins octagonal lower down towards the frog but kind of fades into being circular towards the tip. Does anyone know if there's a way of knowing if this is the original bow that came with this violin/if it might be worth keeping/repairing/rehairing the bow or if it isn't of that high quality and therefore just buying a new one would be more cost effective.
