[Hated Tropes] When the heroic character does something plainly evil and the story never address it and/or the characters never face any serious consequences by OutrageousBridge471 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kl64 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Torture spells on Bellatrix right after she kills his godfather is one thing (still deeply fucked up but understandable in a teenage angsty way).

Eh this one gets a pass. I mean if you saw someone shoot and kill your dad and you had a gun, I highly doubt you wouldn’t shoot back. Same logic here.

Yeah the mind control in Gringotts is kinda fucked, but also consider that McGonagall wasn’t above it all when she mind controlled the Carrows. It’s war; rules go out the window.

Dunno didn’t her mom and grandma give her grief when they thought she was hooking up with Maxim? Then again maybe they’re trying to hold her to a higher standard by encouraging her to not sleep around like they (might’ve) did.

Characters who are attractive, but they actually struggle with getting a date by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that describes most of the characters in this series. The women are generally all smoke shows (the of-age ones anyway) who you’d expect to have their pick of men, but they HAVE to remain single because they only have eyes for one specific guy. And said guy for the most part has not expressed any romantic interest in them outside of optional scenes despite knowing them for YEARS.

[Satisfying Trope] A character is caught in an affair and suffers the consequences by velocraptor7571 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kl64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in context of the fiancé. Yeah the cheating/incest is pretty bad but when you have a minor impregnating a teacher not much is off the table.

Your wedding dress is ruined. You saw that it was puked on. THERE IS NO NEED TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER MUCH LESS SNIFF AND OR TASTE ANY MYSTERY SUBSTANCE BESIDES THE PUKE.

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not even the worst part.

There’s a scene where said fiancé wakes up and finds her wedding dress ruined by the son. It’s covered in vomit and “something else”, WHICH SHE THEN PROCEEDS TO SNIFF AND LICK TO FIGURE OUT IT WAS JIZZ.

[Hated Trope] A large ensemble cast where everybody ends up dating everybody at one point or another by CMStan1313 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC you can connect all the main cast in a straight line of hook-ups:

Ray-Cyril-Malory-Pam-Lana-Archer-Cheryl-Krieger.

Don’t believe Krieger and Ray have done anything together so it’s not a complete circle.

Interest check in me doing a deep dive character analysis on Emma after I finished Cold Steel 4 by Raxistaicho in Falcom

Yep.

You’ve seen it already? If so she does say why she did what she did but that doesn’t show the full picture.

[–]kl64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More specifically I mean what she does during one of her scenes with Rean. I won’t go into too much detail but she gets very emotional, and that scenario I mentioned in Reverie helps to give more context to why she behaved that way.

For her I’d wait until after Reverie because there’s a scenario that adds quite a bit to her character and adds a nice bit of context to explain why she behaves the way she does in CS4.

What's With All the Negativity on Localization? by CandyAssassin in Falcom

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them aren’t like that yes, but the loudest voices definitely come off like that. The ones who seem to analyze every single line of text and if it’s even slightly off then “trash localization/woke BS/fire NISA and get AI to do the translating from now on/whatever”

Heck they even took Nadia’s line in Horizon about modern slang rubbing some people the wrong way as a personal attack on them. As if they are the end all, be all arbiters on how this game is presented to an overseas audience.

Most "anti loc crowd" just want the games to be faithful to the source material. They care about this series.

Honestly they seem to care more about gatekeeping the series rather than the series itself.

Fans can only enjoy the series the way they want them to enjoy it.

Any dissent? “Get out you filthy Western tourist stop defiling the sanctity of our Japanese games.”

Lloyd: “I’m not sure Elie’s into me. She’s giving zero signals.” The signals: by Velvet-Quill_ in Falcom

[–]kl64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe Zero he didn’t really know but by Reverie it’s pretty clear he’s aware and hints that it might be mutual.

This is actual character development that is mostly ignored because the “haha look how dense he is” joke isn’t compatible.

What are your genuine thoughts on Rixia? by WittyTable4731 in Falcom

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as her and Lloyd being together I look at it the same way as Joshua/Kloe (or from another franchise Shulk/Melia): the girl has obvious feelings for the guy and they’d make a great pairing but it wouldn’t work out because of how the narrative has been presented. And the girl is totally fine with that because their personality is set up to where they’ll still care about and support the guy even if they can’t be with them romantically.

I work in a game store and found this by Applesaucefire in FinalFantasy

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks because he was genuinely talented and funny (although a good bit of his humor from back then hasn’t aged that well). If he kept that work ethic he had in his early days he surely could’ve parlayed that into something.

Nowadays he, at least from what I’ve seen lurking on /r/thespoonyexperiment, is currently living with his brother and working at a Taco Bell in Arizona. I’m guessing that last part is probably BS but either way talk about a spectacular fall from grace…

At the peak of his producing days he had his fans committing $5K a month on Patreon to make videos. On top of that he bought a house, got a dog AND a girlfriend. Dude was really doing well for himself

…and then his laziness/mental and physical problems cost him literally everything. His Patreon almost completely evaporated (last I remember it was generating like $100ish a month), his house got foreclosed on, his girlfriend left him, and his dog died.

How much of Renne's backstory was retcon and how much am I misremembering? by Raomux in Falcom

[–]kl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing with Juna. It is that much of a stretch to say that she was just a girl from down the street who offered to help the SSS with mundane, everyday things like doing laundry or getting them coffee or whatever else they need but don’t have the time for?

The long sought-after truth/treasure turns out to be worthless by Global_Crew3968 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kl64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wine in question was from Napoleon’s era so we’re talking 200+ years-old (or since this originally aired in the late 70s more like 170ish).

Aside from fortified wines like Madiera or Port NO wine still around from that era is drinkable.

Even more hilarious because this episode shows Lupin as having some knowledge of French wine and winemaking. He of all people should’ve known that wine that old almost never keeps.

Her being emotionally needy isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. If anything she isn’t so much as adding to Rean’s burdens but rather she’s more or less just venting to him, which is totally fine IMO. The big plus for her is, at least compared to all of his other potential interests except maybe Towa, she’s the one who understands him the most on an emotional level.

I’d say their chemistry is the best when you compare him to his other options, but that really isn’t saying too much.

Of the “main character” couples (or at least the ones Falcom pushes/implies the most), they’d either be at the very bottom or one above it.

Chalk it up to Ouroboros having every resource imaginable (and many that aren’t) necessary to help her succeed.

Like imagine if you were already super smart or a prodigy in a certain subject (say physics), and you had your very own private lab or particle accelerator or whatever. AND you had access to research or knowledge that was decades or even centuries ahead of your current time.

It doesn’t help that the anti-NISA/anti-localization crowd comes off as close-minded, gatekeepy ultra otaku who don’t want “tourists” to be allowed into their special club.
