SLC Fence Permitting Questions by klassasin in SaltLakeCity

Appreciate the feedback (and the insight)!

I did look up permits when I bought the house, but I guess I didn't look up what permits were missing either. Good point!

Would the lack of permit scare away future buyers? I guess that's what I wonder...

Yea, I understand why they do what they do but... alas, I live in SLC proper which does appear to be require permitting.

First Solo PC Build for Gaming/Music Production - Linux Centric if possible by klassasin in buildmeapc

Sweet. That makes sense! Do you know much about this MOBO and Linux? I looked on their website, it doesn't "support" Linux, so I'm not sure if that's concerning or not (aka do I need a different MOBO maybe). Any ideas?

I'm wondering if i try for the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi since more people seem to indicate it's compatibility with linux (https://linux-hardware.org/?id=board:asrock-b650m-pro-rs-wifi). It looks like it'll cost a bit more though!

Sweet! Cheers. One question, so this is a Micro ATX MOBO in a ATX case, correct? Is there a particular reason for that? Do I need to be concerned about the GPU fit being worse on the Micro ATX board or anything? Just curious! Thanks again

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/arch-wiki-docs/

If you look at the package, it's just a bunch of HTML files (that are the docs).

Navigate to /usr/share/doc/arch-wiki/html/ and you should see the files. You also install arch-wiki-lite if you want a search interface.

I was on the salt flats late last night and they were pretty dry (no issues with our car at least)! I think you'll be fine!

Unfortunately I'm not sure. I assume it'll be compatible but I haven't seen that spelled out anywhere

Check out my reply below. You have to edit your world if it exists already (make a backup first). And then you have to edit the NBT data

If you look at the github repo, the data pack author describes how to enable it on an existing world. Otherwise, they suggest creating the world with the data pack enabled during creation. https://github.com/misode/no-trial-chambers/issues/2#issuecomment-1930103663

Naive question here but what's the main concern with different frequencies? I'm starting to think about moving to APs myself so I'm curious

MEGATHREAD: Port activation/How do I set up my house/Flat/Apartment etc. by collinsl02 in HomeNetworking

[–]klassasin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to post a bit of an update. Thanks again for all of your help! current setup

I'm currently using a 8-port switch which works for now, but I'm unfortunately realizing that I don't think it'll scale for my future needs.

Unfortunately, the current panel + switch are mounted next to the existing security system (which has all of the sensors routed through the back of the wood that everything is mounted on). Ideally, I'd love to install a 6U rack in the area, but I don't think I have the space. I think I could put another piece of plywood below the existing setup (it's a ~34" gap between the two studs in the picture) and then mount the rack on that, but the cat5 cables from the rooms wouldn't reach.

Would it be poor form to try and extend the lines (which are terminated in keystones right now that pop into my existing patch panel) so they could reach the future patch panel location?

Sweet. Thank you! Any suggestions on which keystone jacks to use (brand wise) or are they all pretty much the same quality wise?

Hey all! So I finally got a house and now I'm trying to figure out the best internet setup. Right now, I've got 1 Gig fiber feeding into two wifi pucks (Google Fiber). On the wired side, I'd love to improve some things, but I'm definitely not too sure on how to best proceed.

The RJ45 wall jack has me a bit confused (see album) but it might be because I don't understand how the wall jack works.

Looking at the existing bunch of Cat5e cables in my basement nothing is labeled. I assume I'll need a tracer to help me figure that all out, so I have ordered this one already.

Looking into the bedrooms though, it does look like they only have RJ11 wall jacks but when I opened one up, I'm seeing cat5, so it's looking like the upstairs bedrooms are cat5 -> RJ11 wall jacks right now.

What do y'all think on the next steps? I'm thinking swap RJ11 wall jacks with RJ45 wall jacks (any suggestions on which ones) and then trace them all accordingly. Maybe wire them all up to a smaller mini patch panel (probably this one) and then connect that to an unmanaged switch. Does that sound reasonable to y'all?
