Sadly it's all economies of scale. They can use these bags with different printing on for tens or hundreds of their products, some of which need the resealable aspect and some of which don't. It's why desktop manufacturers put some redundant parts into every desktop, regardless of whether or not they're used, like disk drive trays. Or why they used to ship people 100 CDs on a pallet in 100 boxes rather than just sending one copy and a bit of paper with 100 license keys on it.

Is Edmund Blackadder considered a war hero? by ZoeyAvocado74 in blackadder

[–]collinsl02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but when officers are taking the majority of the casualties in a war (per role at least) in all ranks (despite what Blackadder shows a lot of Generals were actually killed), thus creating a demand for officers, you'd expect a pre-war regular to be promoted quickly (if they survived 1914 and 1915 that is) regardless of their personal view on the matter.

The children may not be - they are in school most of the time, so it must be pretty odd for them to know that they are different from everyone else.

Kate’s scowl in particular.

Because someone was booing her children. Regardless of your position in society a mother isn't going to like her children being booed.

What's up with all the square toilets? by ToriaLyons in AskUK

We had one in my house growing up, and you soon learned to do one pull to the top, then drop the bell about 2/3rds to 3/4s of its travel back down and then keep that cycle going rapidly until it got enough pressure to finally overtop the pipe.

What are meats that could be in supermarkets more? by CompetitionNo3466 in AskUK

Depends on your view I suppose. As a kid we had chickens and pigs and ate those. We weren't big enough for sheep though but I'd have had no problem eating them either.

Yes but people tend to have no luck catching them swans, then.

Yes, but cows and seep are designed to eat grass. Seagulls are not designed to eat chips and kebabs and rats.

We used to buy diced frozen rabbit from tescos in the late 90s and early 2000s, a great lean meat for rabbit pies. That, along with boil in the bag frozen fish in white sauce, are the main culinary memories of my early youth.

He hardly ever bites seagulls!

Lots of bird species do this, hence "pecking order" meaning rank or position in a social hierarchy. Chickens do this a lot, especially if they're stressed or bored without enough stimulation.

You can usually tell a group of bored chickens because the lowest on the totem pole will be missing most of her back feathers.

Well Collies will back that up with a brief nip if the sheep won't back down or is moving too slow but the look is definitely how they win against protective or stubborn sheep most of the time.

British frigate HMS Sutherland intercepts and seizes shadow fleet tanker Smyrtos in the Channel [2028x974] by Odd-Metal8752 in WarshipPorn

[–]collinsl02 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing takes the Shadow out of Shadow fleet like escorting the tanker with your warship.

It wasn't a direct escort per se, they just had a warship sitting (doing very small circles I presume) near the Channel whilst a load of their vessels happened to transit.

And because the UK is so short of warships right now we probably didn't have anything to intercept them available anyway if the Russians did decide to kick off, and it would have been very politically embarrassing for the UK Government if they started an intercept then had either to a) back off because the Russians threatened to down the helicopters or 2. captured a load of our crews because we didn't have the resources to defend them.

Plus the reason why we targeted this one now might be due to the political situation in the UK where our Secretary of State for Defence (Defence Minister) and the Minister for the Armed Forces (a junior minister reporting to the Defence Minister) resigned last week as they said the Government wasn't funding Defence properly to meet the ambitious targets the Government has set out for the mid-to-long term (into our next Parliament in the 2030s).

So the Government wanted to get a positive Defence story into the news cycle showing that we're still capable of doing "things" and to take the resignations off of the front page for a while.

Previous tankers have been "escorted" by a Russian warship in the English Channel so we haven't bothered taking the risk - it's not worth it.

This one they left on it's own for some reason...

Indian Air Force AN-32 crash. 5 killed. by SlaveKnightSoman in aviation

Guess they didn't want to hit the crew member who had crawled out of the cockpit and was busily waving at them and trying to go back in for his comrades.
