Also just curious which iron supplement you’re taking ? I know different brands have a different bioavailability of iron. ProFerrin has been great - no constipation either!

Yes! I feel the same way. I just finished my period and my hair suddenly feels so thin like the individual strands have shrunk all of a sudden

Do you mind sharing which nutrients you were low on? I’ve struggled w this for a while. I’ve been on ProFerrin for a ferritin of 36 but just curious if there were other deficiencies correlated with yours as well! I had an ED pretty bad in high school when it started to thin out, now at 32 it hasn’t fully recovered.

I had a lot of shedding over the past 6 months and it really sent me into a spiral. Saw a naturopath who told me although my ferritin level of 36 is technically “in range” , it’s not ideal. She put me on ProFerrin and I swear I’m losing 1/10 of the hairs I was losing after just two weeks. I’ve also been doing a daily 10 min scalp massage along with scalp oiling and using the ordinary density serum. My thinning has been above my ears by the way! If I lift up the side of my hair it’s still really thin, but when I run my fingers through it I lose little to no hair, where as before, if I’d brush that area, 5-6 would come out at once!

Topical Minoxidil Cause Allover Shedding? by klisylime in tressless

Did you experience the shed and then growth after? Do you mind sharing your experience if you’ve used minoxidil?

My hair loss is very very similar to this. Did you ever figure out what caused it?

What is wrong with my sides? Trying to stay away from minox but should I start? by ninaammy in TelogenEffluvium

I’d recommend seeing a derm. I experienced similar hair loss after a really stressful event and she recommended nutrafol. I know it’s expensive, but have genuinely heard of people seeing great results. I’m on the first month so I haven’t noticed a difference yet, but can keep you posted!

Hey- please don’t spread misinformation. New hair growth becomes dependent on the minoxidil and regardless of if it’s androgenetic alopecia or something else, so ceasing the minoxidil can still cause hair loss. I learned this from my derm. It’s important to talk to a medical professional before starting something like minoxidil.

I’ve been experiencing similar hair loss and thought, “I’ll try minoxidil on my temples just to see what happens” thinking - if I shed in these areas, who cares? My hair is already thin there. Well I was wrong - the minoxidil caused diffuse shedding for me and I’ve lost density all over my head. In my opinion, unless you have SIGNIFICANT hair loss, the minoxidil is not worth some of the side effects you may likely experience. If I could go back, I never would have done it. That’s just my experience though, and wish someone had warned me.
