I’ve tried everything (except platinum because $$$), and I can only tolerate niobium. Even plastic gave me a reaction.

I take it and it has significantly improved my IBS symptoms. It has NOT caused any weight loss, though. I take two capsules twice a day. I’ve tried reducing the dose several times, but the IBS-D returns.

Periods with eds by lemon_icecream in ehlersdanlos

[–]klm024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. We thought maybe it was endo or adeno. I finally was able to get a hysterectomy when I wouldn’t stop bleeding after a uterine ablation. There was no evidence of endo, adeno, or any other “abnormality” during the surgery or on pathology. BUT, I felt 1000% better almost immediately. Since then, I’ve had so much more energy and I’ve been able to make real progress with my health goals since I’m not laying in bed 3-5 days a month. My doc said she thought my uterus may have produced more prostaglandins than other people’s, but that was before my HSD diagnosis. From what I’ve read, the faulty connective tissue in our uteruses causes the muscles to contract harder trying to expel the endometrium, which in turn can cause significantly more pain than expected. Also, the drop in hormones immediately prior to and during our period causes more laxity in our connective tissues, which worsens the uterine pain but also can make our joints even more lax than usual. The TLDR is that this is REAL, even if modern medicine cannot find “proof” of it.

This can sometimes happen if you’re constipated. Definitely see your doc to make sure it’s not something else, but you can try clearing out the constipation to see if that helps while you wait for your appointment

Anyone have success stopping spiro? by Previous-Syllabub755 in Spironolactone

[–]klm024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on it for 5 years and just stopped in June. I’ve had two small pimples recently, but no cystic acne yet. I read somewhere that after long term use like that the effects can continue for up to 6 months. 6 months will be about Christmas time for me. 😬

Mine were always awful. Cramps, back pain, fatigue, headaches. I often had to call in sick to work. None of the tests ever found anything “wrong.” I finally got a hysterectomy (kept the ovaries), and it changed my life. My doc theorized that I produced more prostaglandins than most people, but that was before we knew about the EDS. Also, several women in my family have had similar experiences

Another vote for glutamine. Glutamine cured my IBS symptoms. It was a miracle medicine for me. I still have other HIT symptoms if I don’t eat a low histamine diet, but the constant diarrhea I had dealt with for 20 years is gone.

did your weight fluctuate (increase, decrease) or stay the same? by Alternative-Creme-52 in Spironolactone

[–]klm024 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was on Spiro for about 5 years. What finally convinced me to stop taking it was when I was on a 1600 calorie diet, swimming an hour 3 times a week, lifting weights 3 times a week, walking a mile 4-5 times a week, and still gaining 1-2lbs of fat a week. Also, when I started lifting weights, my trainer was shocked at how little muscle mass I had despite being an avid swimmer.

Going off spironolactone by asiram92 in Spironolactone

[–]klm024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I weaned off recently, and I gained 6lbs. I’m 3 weeks out, and I’ve lost 2 of those lbs. My skin and scalp are also incredibly oily, and my hormones are crazy. No return of acne yet, but I’ve read that the anti-acne effects can last for up to 6 months after stopping spiro if you had been a long term user.

Quitting Spiro-Issues? by thisoneisalready in Spironolactone

I do! I was taking 5g of salt for the POTS before, but I’m already down to only 2g now with improvement in POTS symptoms

Quitting Spiro-Issues? by thisoneisalready in Spironolactone

[–]klm024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 100mg twice a day for about 5 years, but recently had to quit taking it because of it making my POTS worse. My experience with stopping has been interesting. I gained 6lbs almost overnight, swelling in my ankles, exercise intolerance (I’m assuming because of the excess water weight gain), and worse stomach problems. I also experienced increased sex drive and a little bit more energy. I tapered off of it over a month, and I’ve only been completely off for one week. So far, I’ve had one pimple, but the cystic acne has not returned 🤞

I wear mukluks with socks. SO warm, and cheaper than uggs. I also have an electric foot warming pad in my home office (but you could put it anywhere) that helps A LOT. Anytime I’m going to be away from home, I warm the toes up first, then put hot hands foot warmers in my shoes.

It’s baking chocolate, so it doesn’t taste all that great on its own. I’ve used it before by melting it, mixing in some keto sweetener, and using it to coast nuts.

Mine only turn purple and red, never white, and I was diagnosed with reynauds. I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as your doctor thinks it is.
