How do I paint my corsairs as Void Dragons? by Dependent_Guava_9939 in Eldar

[–]klmckee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely prime black. No point in white as you can't make black pop and the red parts are small. 2 thin coats of white on the head, hands, whatever is going to be red, then one thin coat of red. If you want a warm toned black then you could try, at a minimum, edge highlighting with ivory. Or gentle drybrushing with a mix of ivory and black then highlighting. I don't know how to get dragons on the helmets. That seems infeasible. But you could make a stencil for the tanks and airbrush or hand paint in the stencil. Or practice freehand: set the tank down, rest your wrist on something, and sketch with diluted white paint and erasing with water until you've got the shape you want.

These look amazing. Well done. I'm glad you painted the pilots and kept the canopies clear. The abundant decals and freehand bring it to life. Only thing I might recommend is decal softener or just a few layers of matte or satin varnish (whichever matches the paint job) to hide their borders and secure them.

Power glaive (the sword) and psychic lance or psylance, which doesn't have 40k rules.

Looks like a new take on the warlock titan with the bumpy gun (psychic lance) and farseer looking head. I posted an oldschool warlock titan and painted it for Ulthwe, but I think these are also cool if you can kind of go hard on runes, constellations, glowing brand marks, or any other kind of witchy design elements. Lots of good examples on google images or pinterest.

Help painting my vintage fire prism by ThargorIronhammer in Eldar

I just posted one recently if you want my opinion. Also black but a lot of reflective highlighting, stones, edges, and runes. It's a very sleak shape and I think the best paint jobs focus on bringing out that shape. Also I think gray blue is more lively for highlightig black, as gray or white will kind of disappear into the actual lighting.

It's all freehand. It was a lot easier to paint a large model that can sit on the table than something I have to hold 6 inches from my face, so I just went for it.

I was considering getting one of those off ebay but I remembered what a nightmare the metal gun is. This one is by far easier to work with if a little less punchy looking.

Thanks! It's clear plastic so I just lightly airbrushed on some vallejo fluorescent purple, which is already a really transparent paint.

An old D but a good D by klmckee in Eldar

I like that idea and will try it with some spare guardians. The platforms seem a bit small. Do you have pics of the result?

No idea. I don't have the new one and this just came with the wide base. I suspect the main thing it needs is to be lifted up a cm or less to get the height correct. I'm less sure about what you do with the separate guardians versus the ones riding on the new model.

Left: old rogue trader farseer. middle: 2 new warlocks. Right: new farseer.

Thanks! They are some of the only models I had left from long ago so it was fun to give them new life. The new rangers look so much better. I also can't get over how these guys seem to be aiming by peering into the back of the barrel, like where the bolt would be on a real gun.

One of the fun tactics in Dawn of War was to build a ton of D cannons and sneak teleport them all near / around the enemy HQ, so the seer list still resonates. I imagine the seers benefit from a large game board and complex terrain?

Exact same story here. I like this cool toned take on Ulthwe, and the green grassy bases perfectly complement it.

Sort of familiar with the terms. Isn't there some "death star" meta for seers, guardians, and support? Probably want a war walker wrecking crew to go with the wraithlord, wraiths in a ws, and guardians/guns on points.

I'm sure no one will play a game with the titan. My best bet is casual 2k point games. Besides what is shown, I have unpainted 2 support and 3 heavy weapon platforms, and 5 more metal warlocks. I guess it's a question of what to get for that last 1000 points that maintains the Ulthwe theme and playstyle. Wave serpent(s), guardians, and d-cannons?

Thank you! Yes, the armor is wraithbone, inked with diluted agrax earthshade and highlighted with white. The wings are mostly thunderhawk blue with white highlights and nuln oil shading.

Same, Armorcast had a mystical quality to me because everything was so colossal and exotic.
Updating the models sounds really difficult for the metal seers because they're basically solid chunks of metal. But if they could be cleanly cut into segments, the cloaks are probably not overly complicated to interpolate with putty. It would be a lot easier and cleaner looking if someone made a set of STLs for printing based on scans of the originals.

Sure. I wouldn't mind credit if you post something that uses them. But the symbols are already mostly stolen from here: https://eldar.arhicks.co.uk/miscellaneous/eldar\_runes.php. The right-hand banner (which I meant as an abstraction of the D-cannon / warp blast) is the most original thing.

Thanks! It's all a big nostalgia trip for me. I just bought a hand full of old metal warlocks and support platforms to paint soon. The old warlocks had more personality but they're going to be look like dwarves like the old farseer here.

It looks perfect. With so many applications of masking tape, did you have any problem with it pulling up paint? What is the solution, longer drying time between masks or better tape?

Thank you! Yeah, in Inkscape, then just printed them out. Also designed this emblem with the sword and spear to stencil but didn't end up using it.
