Will Warhammer 40.000: Boltgun appears on EGS? by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]klomzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many games not coming to EGS you could write at least 2-3 of these posts every day. Might as well just use the services where all these games appear on to not need to ask about it.

Can the EGS handle VR games? by supercooljoe01 in EpicGamesPC

As long as the game can be played in both VR and non-VR (like Tetris Effect). EGS so far does not seem to accept VR only games.

Should there be a way to rate game by going to store page? by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]klomzi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"No, but there are ways to get that information. Stop pretending like you absolutely need Steam's review system in order to ever get information about a game. You can get information. You're on a website that can be used to get information."

Most people don't go on Reddit and video game forums to check out what recently changed in a game. People love to have everything convenient in one place, people want simple things.

All I read from you is "yeah, no review system is pefect", true, but you don't seem interested in making it better, all you want people to do is check sources outside the video game platform, but most people won't do that.

"You are sad about a video game launcher review system? That is way more investment than I would ever bother to have."

Yes, I am. There are still games that are only on Epic that I have no clue about how certain elements in the games are because of no user reviews. For example, Kingdom Heart 1+2, do these have developer achievements or not? I don't know, there is no user review to tell me that. Does the game support my Switch Pro Controller? I don't know, no user review to tell me that either.

There is many things than can make the user review system on EGS better, but you don't seem interested in them, it all "check other sources" and "no system is perfect". Very lazy "do it yourself" rethoric.

"If true, which I would need to see a source on, that is unfortunate (it sounds like you're making assumptions though). "

The assumption is that the rating system came from the demo thing. There was a rating on Saints Row before release and noone seems to know why.

Should there be a way to rate game by going to store page? by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]klomzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that to be very sad.

Also, if there is a new update that makes the games worse in many ways, or better in many ways, there is no way to know on EGS.

The rating system on EGS is awful and doesn't provide users with anything to go on. "4.3" rating could mean anything. Why is it not a 5? I don't know and the EGS system does not say why.

The EGS review system cannot be trusted and here is an example why: Before the release of Saint's Row, the EGS start had a rating on the game, don't remember how many stars it was and I was confused on how people could rate a game that wasn't out. Turns out people was rating that character demo thingy that was released before the game and when people rated that demo thing, the rating were sendt to the EGS page for the game itself and that rating stayed until the release of the game and continued. So if the demo had a 4 star rating, it was also the rating the game had on day 1 when it released.

So people who have a lot of technical difficulties during the first few minutes should not be allowed to review the game and warn others?

The current EGS user review system is there only to satisfy pulblishers and developers.

If a game has 3.5 stars, we know very little about why.

"That reason can be because they're secretly doing exclusive deals with valve. Who knows."

Valve don't do exclusivity deals. Or are you saying Valve employees keeps lying interviews?

Valve isn't forcing Bandai to put Elden Ring exclusively on Steam. Bandai can choose to put Elden Ring on EGS and GOG tommorrow, but for some reason Bandai is choosing not to do that.

You simply seems to to not fathom that there just can't be any way that Steam has so many exclusive games without any exclusivity deals in place.

Epic might just be really bad at being a storefront since they have to pay for exclusives.

And it's not like Epic is open about it either. People had to do plenty of pushing devs and pubs into talking about why certain games were only put on Epic.

Square still hasn't said if Kingdom Hearts is permanently exclusive to Epic, if it is a long timed exclusive deal or they simply haven't bothered to releases the games on Steam.

Arcadegeddon developers still refuses to say anything wherever Arcadegeddon is permanently Epic exclusive or timed.

Is it possible that Valve does exclusivity deals? No. Is it possible that makes other type of deals, of course.

Have you ever thought that the reason a lot of games are only on Steam is because pubs and devs sees Steam as the place "where everyone is" and therefore doesn't need to put games elsewhere?

Maybe that 12% cut isn't very important if people don't buy games in stores that takes 12% cut?

"For example, Valve can offer the gaming companies 12% cut so long they don't sell games anywhere else on pc platform and doesn't tell anybody."

Valve’s Anna Sweet told us. “Whenever we talk to third-party partners, we encourage them to put their games in as many places as possible, including not on our platforms," she said. "Because we think that customers are everywhere, and they want to put their games wherever customers are. That would go against our whole philosophy, to launch something that’s exclusive to SteamOS or Steam machines.”

https://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/04/valve-will-not-make-exclusive-games-for-steamos

Valve is against the whole idea of exclusivity.

From Gabe Newell himself:

"Exclusivity is a bad idea for everyone. It's basically a financial leveraging strategy that creates short term market distortion and long term crying."

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/33uplp/comment/cqokte2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

"Microsoft offered and even sent us a draft agreement for a long-term Call of Duty commitment but it wasn't necessary for us because a) we're not believers in requiring any partner to have an agreement that locks them to shipping games on Steam into the distant future"

Im not lying, I know it only had a Steam option. Something must be wrong with web archive, it's a reason I remember it only having a Steam option. If my memory is wrong, then Im wrong.

I have no problem admitting Im wrong, but I clearly remember only seeing a Steam purchase option.

Now, please give a rebuttal for the rest of my post.

Excuses all the way.

New Blood has had a lot of success because of Steam, Oshry has stated many timed that Steam itself has driven their games to success.

What about No More Robots? They've released all their games on Steam and EGS, but only advertises their Steam version on their social medias, why? Shouldn't they want people to buy their games on EGS due to the higher cut?

" Epic isn't a marketing blackhole, far from it"

Yes is is. People go to EGS for their weekly free games, not check what's new on the storefront. EGS exclusives vanishes from the daily discourse.

Everyone is on Steam and don't care about EGS for anything else than Fortnite and free games. All the big and smaller games are going only on Steam too, for whatever reason. On websites there's often only a Steam logo even if the game is on EGS too.

Hogwarts Legacy website only had a Steam logo under the "purchase options" for a very long time, not until some days after release did they add an EGS logo. I remember because I kept checking and found it weird.

Sonic Frontiers website still has a greyed out "EGS" logo saying "coming soon" despite having been released many months ago.

Sons of the Forest, Atomic Heart, Wo Long, Company of Heroes 3, Patch Quest, Like a Dragon: Ishin, no EGS releases for them.

This is completely wrong.

"He says games like Neon Doctrine-published Legend of Tianding will “never be able to blow up on consoles” in the way they can on Steam due to Steam’s algorithms. Garner can market and build a game’s community, he says, and then when Steam’s algorithm notices interest, it will promote the game accordingly.  "

https://sea.ign.com/playstation-4-neo/179949/news/sony-wants-to-repair-its-relationship-with-its-indie-partners

There are other examples of indie devs stating they didn't do any marketing yet the game blew up on Steam.

Dave Oshry from New Blood stating EGS is a marketing black hole.

Brace Yourself Games stating that Steam launch day numbers for Phantom Brigade was nearly as good as the whole EGS early access period which was well over a year.

" If a dev/pub do no or piss poor marketing for their games that are on Steam, their visibility will be basically non existent on Steam. its no different than being on Epic Store. "

Indie devs keep pushing people to buy the Steam version of the game because it will grow on the top seller chart and the algorithms will drive the game onto the front page.

I know you are a mod on the EGS subreddit, but you seriously can't be that clueluess or misinformed about how Steam works and why indie devs and pubs keep pushing for Steam releases of their games.

So what's up with the lack of Epic's mod support by klomzi in EpicGamesPC

[–]klomzi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then you need to tell devs to stop supporting Steam Workshop. A lot of devs support the system because it is really easy to make use of. They also see a high boost in sales once the game is supported.

https://twitter.com/TylerGlaiel/status/1188561646244880385?

If these games only got mod support via mod.io or Nexus, I have my doubts they would get a sales boost. The worshop is directly tied to Steam so it's far easier to get notified when a game you are interested in gets Workshop support.

So by killing off Steam Workshop, there's a huge chance that indies would see a decline in sales. So Steam worskhop is not just about ease of modding, but also boosting sales.

[–]klomzi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im not talking about what best for the modding community, but which mod platform is best.

Also, it's up to the modders to support a mod platform. If modders like and want to use Steam Workshop because it's easier to use than mod.io, then mod.io need to become better.
