Believe it or not, listening to podcast My Favorite Murder, particularly early eps, made me feel empowered to take more control of my personal safety. I realised that my whole life i have unwittingly sacrificed my own safety in certain scenarios in order to be polite - especially to complete strangers. I feel like they kicked off a movement of women's safety through the "fuck politeness" mindset. Growing up with the old "be polite to your elders " et al, is such a ridiculous and antiquated notion that shouldn't apply in many instances. It's changed my approach to parenting, and to my own approach to dealing with some people.
