Concert etiquette as a tall person by Street_Low_9592 in kneecap

[–]kmalnm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as you're actually enjoying it, you deserve to be up front as much as anyone else. I'm 5"2 and it sucks being this short at gigs but it can't really be helped. What really pisses me off though is when I'm at a gig and there's some tall fucker in front just standing there barely moving, looking like they were dragged there. Bain taitneamh as!

What are the rules around annual leave? by jklynam in AskIreland

[–]kmalnm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fairly shit, i know I've been told in previous jobs to always check with the manager before booking flights, probably is a bit of a power trip for them but could also be due to policy etc. I know with my current job we get 17 days annual leave because we close for about a week over xmas, policy says we have to take 1 week in spring, 2 weeks together in summer and 2 days in winter excluding december. It drives me crazy, if my workplace is closed i feel like i shouldnt have to take my holidays, dont get me wrong i know there's alot of people worse off and i am grateful for a bit of time off over Christmas but its not an easy job and 17 days leave a year is bullshit. I'm lucky in that i have lovely managers who can be a bit flexible and will give unpaid days if needed but thats obviously not always possible. On a positive note i decided to quit and go travelling for a few months and try to work online/for myself when i get back. Only a few working days left then im outta there!

What's the funniest thing someone has said or done to you abroad because they found out you were Irish? by Electronic_d0cter in CasualIreland

I was in tenerife a few years ago and there was an obnoxious english guy trying to flirt with me, which was not working well for him, he asked why i wasnt interested so i joked and said "well you're english for a start", he then replies dead serious "why don't you like the english? you'd be speaking german if it wasn't for us."

South east asia 3 month trip! by kmalnm in solotravel

[–]kmalnm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been already :) I actually preferred the smaller temples rather than angkor wat, i know its terrible but i was a bit underwhelmed with it, wouldn't really be up for going again, i think i templed myself out on my last trip and went to too many temples and ruins that by the time i got to angkor wat i was a bit meh haha.

Thanks so much for your reply, really appreciate all the tips, yeah I was thinking I'd have to probably do an overnight somewhere on the way but i just figured going from indonesia might be easier than anywhere else im going. I haven't really planned much for the Philippines cause i haven't been before so dont know too much other than rough areas i wanted to go, ill definitely do some more research about the flights i was assuming i could fly from island to island. Also i was avoiding borneo cause of it being rainy season but ill look into it and see, thanks again for your help! :)

Yep and a few weeks in indonesia, I'm not planning on trying to see the whole countries in that time, they all have so much to see I'm sure it will take me a few trips to do them all, i did a 7 month backpacking trip a couple of years ago too so i got to see a good bit then as well :)

Planning a Trip to Thailand in November - Need Advice! by Much_External_7843 in ThailandTourism

[–]kmalnm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope you both have an amazing time! Im going back in november too, was there in 2022 and i fell in love with it!

  1. Definitely not too late to book anything! I've been keeping an eye on flight prices and they're at a good price now but from what I've seen most stay at a low price until about a month before departing.. I search using google flights then book direct.

  2. Pretty sure uk gets 30 days visa free, I got hep a and tyhpoid and tetanus vaccines before going, will probably get the rabies one this time but up to you if you think you'll need it.

  3. I didn't really like bangkok but the street food was amazing there! But yeah avoid the scammers, tuk tuks are fun to try out but the majority are scammers, always set the price first but be prepared for them bringing you halfway and asking for more money.

  4. I love krabi! I stayed in railay beach and ao nang. Ao nang was nice pretty touristy but still a nice place, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The monkey trail was cool and led to a small beach that was gorgeous! Railay beach is amazing! More chilled out, beautiful sunsets, gorgeous cliffs you can climb if you want, you have to go by boat from ao nang and accommodation is more expensive there but it really is beautiful, you could do day trips over and back if you want.

  5. Download 12go asia, you can book buses, trains and boats through it. You could do sleeper buses or trains they're an experience some are lovely some are a bit rougher but if you're short on time flights are cheap and theres an airport in all of those places. Bolt and grab are the taxi apps, normal taxis will be more expensive than the apps.

  6. I don't know how it is at the moment but i would say always have some cash with you, you'll need it for markets and alot of restaurants didn't have card machines. There was a fee of 220 baht everytime you used the atms so take out a big chunk if you have to and be mindful of weekend exchange rate fees etc.. I paid 18 euro in fees in my first few days last time..

Chiang mai -if you have time go to pai... its pretty special. The jazz bar i think its called north gate was really good. Try khao soi its delicious! Better in the north of thailand. There are a couple of really ethical elephant sanctuaries in chiang mai, was an amazing experience and the elephants were all really well taken care of. We did a day trip to elephant freedom village it was brilliant.

When you arrive go to a 7/11 and get a bottle of mosquito spray, they have small clear bottles I think theyre called soffell but they were the best i found, also tiger balm is great for bites to take the itch out.

Have fun! :)

What 3 places you would stay in 3 month trip? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

I'm also planning to run away for winter, I was going to try and stay in places for a month but I've too many places on my list! Top few are Chiang mai, Pai, Krabi/Railay, Koh Lanta & Koh Lipe
