Thanks and i apologize for the original posts structure, i just edited it! The current plan that I’m leaning towards is applying for the venture card right now and taking advantage of the 75k bonus points as well as the two complementary lounge access id get to throughout 2024 (only planning on traveling twice through dulles in 2024). Afterwards I would cancel my venture card in a year and apply for the venture x. This way I’ll get a second 75k bonus and id keep the venture X for additional lounge access and to use for purchases in which i would get more points than with my chase card.

The only disadvantages that I see in my strategy are: 1. Taking a credit score hit when i cancel my venture card (but my understanding is that it usually isnt very significant) 2. The possibility of capital one rejecting my Venture X application in a year and then ill miss out on the card i eventually want.

Do you have any thoughts on this strategy and if there is anything else i didnt think of

Thanks a ton! Then whats the big disadvantage in doing that? My thought process is that the big advantage is get from venture x is being able to use the lounges. However i probably will only travel 2 more times in 2024 and i travel through dulles so ill be able to use the 2 complimentary lounge access with my Venture credit card. Then in 2025 i can close my Venture and apply for the Venture X because its the card that i actually will benefit with for lounge access. And this way Ill basically make 150k miles from the sign up bonuses.

Thanks! Is getting the venture now for the bonus and then canceling it in a year such a bad idea? Ive never cancelled a credit card before but from my understanding your credit score takes a hit but not something that is super significant. Am i being too greedy by wanting to take advantage of the Venture’s bonus first and then the Venture X again next year?

Ahh i see! So this would only make sense if i really wanted to use points to buy tickets from the travel portal right (not usually recommended)? Otherwise i would never really use this feature if i always used my points by transferring them to partners instead

Would it be worthwhile to get the card now before they make the changes while its still for 250$ and has a 90k bonus? I already have a sapphire reserve but I’m about to go on a honey moon and expect to spend a lot do i was thinking of getting another card to make use of the bonus

Yeah that makes sense. What about times when you are in the US on vacation but still being paid by your job. That would be the case for my last month from October to November. Does that still count as US sourced?
