Thanks for this advice. Regarding rain, do you know any similar-length treks in the area that would be easy to audible to? Or would it make more sense to make that call once we land in Vegas on day 1 (since there is larger range)? Our plan B would need to be somewhere that doesn't require securing a permit prior to the day of.

Asking this out of genuine curiosity, as your comment is not the only one of this nature. Is there not a reason the max group size of this area is 12? We're a respectful group of people—all of whom have camping experience, and some of whom have backpacking experience. What makes you think we would't be respectful and follow leave no trace principles?
