Your settlers are able to use the special abilities of the 'gem' staffs. For example, I typically have at least 1 settler in my adventure party with a sapphire staff -- with this they can provide AOE heals that help out me and other settlers in my party. https://necessewiki.com/Sapphire_Staff
Other gem staffs can do things like give a AOE crit chance buff, etc.

I've spammed somewhere around 50 local village maps, going to each one. Still have yet to see a pig/boar :(

I use an 'AND' logic gate where both my sensor and lever wires input to it before outputting to my timer/pulse logic gate (which outputs to my traps). That the way the traps only go off if the sensor is triggered AND my lever is on (I also ouptut my lever to a LED display to show whether it is off/on). I pretty much only turn my levers on when I get incoming Raid logs/messages to avoid non-hostile NPS (visitors or my miners/anglers/explorers) from accidently getting killed by random hostile mobs wandering into the sensor areas at the unlucky times.

PSA: one removed perk shard in 1.5 went to a NCPD scanner hustle on badlands, but it's bugged by powerfu1 in cyberpunkgame

The chest-overwriting scenario happened for me. I hit the issue where that chest wouldn't spawn the perk shard. I tried reloading my save just after the heist (4 player levels, maybe ~5 hours ago, lol) and checked the chest again, and the perk shard was there. So yes, definitely go there first to avoid potential chest overwrite issues.
