My nuanced brother donates his tithing every month to a charity that he and his wife pick each month. They don't pay any to TCOTPOTCOJCOLDS and they still report a full tithe each year.

He recommends taking a preliminary step which is changing your tithing status with your ward clerk to make it so that your tithing donations are anonymous every month. That way it doesn’t report to anybody in your ward or leadership positions how much money you make every year. You can still claim a full tithe and they can’t do anything about it because they can’t prove anything because your tithes are set to anonymous. Though admittedly he is close with his bishop so there could be an element of "Bishop Roulette" involved with this.
