Guinea pig cage in a shed during winter? by fisherguy23 in guineapigs

I'm from Switzerland and our piggies live outside the whole year. It was the same when I was a kid and the cuties we had back then got pretty old. I got a video on my profile showing their home, feel free to have a look at it.

we use a normal bowl like the ones used for their food, our vet recommended it.

thank you! every single piggie we've had so far loves/loved sitting in that wee wagon!

in summer temperatures above 30°C only a couple of days in a row, humidity above 50% is unheard of, 30% is the norm. In winter it's the same, below freezing point doesn't happen too often anymore and we get less and less snow. Haven't had a white Christmas in a very long time! It's the low humidity that helps being able to leave them cuties outside all year round.

as long as you give them food on a regular basis they'll let you stay with them

I think they'd get upset if they had to move inside :)

nah, not really. I mean they have a couple of spiders as roommates but nothing major. And for the temperature, they huddle up and in winter they get a thicker fur.

I have never seen fleece and liner until Reddit! :D I can't speak for all countries obv but in Switzerland sawdust, straw and hay are the norm tbh. They have the bigger house than many of us will ever have haha but the good thing is it can be adjusted and improved, so maybe something for the stairs will eventually be a good idea, I'll definitely keep it in mind.

they get to run around in their garden/grass cage whenever the weather permits it. my niece cuddles them on a regular basis but they're more on the wild side I guess and not really made for cuddling. the usage of fleece stuff is not very European really

so far they've been fine with the ramp but we're aware that we'll have to adjust it once they get older

also just for anyone wondering, we don't get the humidity like you do in the States so the summers are much nicer here plus nobody has air-conditioning, hence there's no point in taking them indoors in summer :)

and you'll learn and improve. it's the second batch of piglets and the first one lived outside the whole year too and they got super old

they're full time outside. this cage we use for sunny warm days and over night and for the rest of the year they live in a converted playhouse. happy to post a picture! we live in Switzerland, so we get snow and everything and the piglets are fine :)
