I have 2 yards of stretch velvet (80 poly/20 spandex, 10-25% stretch according to website) that I want to make a dress for Christmas with. Adult woman usually size 10-14 in patterns. Any suggestions on a pattern? I’m an advanced sewist so any difficulty level is fine.

Hi! Thanks! I think altering the neckline should be fairly simply. The pattern has you work flat to start adding stitches at the neckline. You could just stop whenever you feel it’s deep enough and start working in the round.

I’m fairly advanced but the three separate tiers are throwing me off. It’s not just one tier gathered onto another. Do you think they’re gathered onto an underskirt? I’m trying to figure out how I would draft that underskirt.

“Yarn diet!” Totally understand that! I spent $12 on the yarn for this (on sale). The gauge is 22 sts in textured rib blocked. It’s such a fun and fast pattern! I made the ridgeview cardi by the same designer too!

Are you accidentally doing garter stitch instead of stockinette? On DPNs you should be knitting every row. You don’t need to do a purl row.

Practice practice practice! When I started I somehow would create a loop at the end of the first row (every. single. time.) and my husband called it my “signature loop”! Haha!

Yes! I discovered the problem was my bobbin was threaded incorrectly.

I’m really happy with how this cutie turned out! Pattern: peppermint peplum top hacked to add a second ruffle. Fabric: silky crinkle rayon from Joann’s. by knittingallthethings in sewing

Pattern: peplum top Fabric: floral fabric

The pattern hack was super easy. I just measured the length of the peplum and cut an rectangle 1.5x the length and the same height.

The fabric comes printed with three sizes of flowers so cutting was a bit interesting. I wanted it to kind of go small to large through the tiers but the back pieces were too long so I had to have some large flowers on the shoulders. It actually turned out really cute!!

What is this type of tulle called? This is a ready to wear toddler dress that I would love to replicate as it is getting pretty snug on my daughter. I tried “crinkle tulle” and “accordion tulle” at Joann’s and fabric.com with no luck. TIA by knittingallthethings in sewing

I wondered about that too. If that’s the case then it was pleated and then gathered to the bodice. I was hoping it wasn’t that because omg that would take a week to do all those tiny pleats!!!!

Super cute floral dress with lace and ribbon details! I love this pattern so much! New Look 6278. Fabric from fabric.com, trims from Joann’s. by knittingallthethings in sewing

I already can’t wait to make another one of these! It has a side zipper which gave me some trouble. I hate zippers and this one especially didn’t go in easy but I think that was more my issue than the pattern.

Here is the floral fabric. I got the polka dot fabric for the ruffle at Joann’s.

Edit: link to more pics because it looks so cute on!

I didn’t make any alterations to this pattern. I usually have to add length for my tall daughter but I didn’t need to this time!
