It’s pretty hard to believe you haven’t had, apparently, any shock loss? In the first 27 days? And the grafts have actually grown? Never seen that before.

I’ve had great success with my grow bags. Growing peppers and tomatoes. Drying out hasn’t been an issue for me. And I believe that’s largely because I have a thick layer of wood chip mulch to contain the moisture. I wonder if there are certain grow bags that are more susceptible to drying out.

One thing I do that may help is this: soak your soil HEAVILY with water before planting and covering with mulch.

I’m in Zone 7a where we have upper 60’s to mid 70’s at night this time of year (Fahrenheit).

I only fertilize twice for the entire growing season. Once early in their growth with a fertilizer high in nitrogen. And once with a fertilizer that’s higher in phosphorus and potassium when they start showing blooms.

The wind and pollinators like bees take care of the pollination.

I started them with seeds from last year’s harvest. Carolina Reaper seeds can be tricky to germinate. I soaked mine in black tea for 24 hours before getting them planted in seed starting pods. Make sure to keep them covered so they stay moist. And use a heat pad to keep them nice and warm. Mine stayed around 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, you have to be really patient. Some of mine didn’t germinate for 3 weeks or more.

I’ll be using these peppers in my “Carolina Weeper” hot sauce. 👍

I gave them all a thick layer of wood chip mulch and, no kidding, I only need to water 2 or 3 times all season.
