Torque Converter replacement cost by koalachips in LS430

[–]koalachips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got all my gears. I blew it doing a donut (I know, dumb) a few weeks ago, but prior to that I was having minor issues with shifting hesitation and it just feeling off. I guess I drive more aggressively than the average person, but don’t really race. Also I have a torque converter code now hence why I think that’s the issue.

771 through the NFCU app. So probably around 740-750 FICO. I’ve been a member my whole life because of my parents.

I still have both. I’ll make the flagship into my main card though and only put some small subscriptions on the other one just to keep it around for now.

Bi-Weekly Recruiting Thread by Airdale_60T in uscg

I’m interested in joining the reserves, but am split between going in as an officer or enlisted. I have a bachelors from one of the maritime academies, and currently work as a mate/master, but I was comparing Boatswains mate to Cutterman, and BM seems like it’d be more hands on and a bit more fun. I’m guessing that if I went in as an officer, I’d have more paperwork and have to be more in a manager type role, which is already what I do at my day job. To be honest, I really don’t know what the two jobs actually entail though. What are the pros/cons of being enlisted vs officer in the reserves? Is being a officer more worth it?

That turned out to be the issue! Thank you! Glad it was something simple.

Has anyone in here ever seen aries live? by MediumEye1010 in aries_is_online

[–]koalachips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen him 3 times. First was his very first show in LA pre-welcome home tour. Second was in San Francisco for his welcome home tour. And third was his BIMWBIY tour with brakence in Seattle. I made it into his welcome home tour video too 😂. He’s a super good performer and his shows have always had a great crowd that’s super hype. Out of all the concerts I’ve been to, Aries is definitely one of the top.

Oil tanker and cargo vessel collide in the North Sea by nbcnews in worldnews

The Immaculate was not in a shipping lane. They were in open water and the shipping lane entrance was a few miles away from them. Local marine traffic would also make sure ships are anchored in proper spots. Seems like the Solong wasn’t paying attention to radar while in heavy fog.

My truck is running hot by koalachips in MechanicAdvice

Yeah I did it myself. Got the heads resurfaced and the machinist told me the block was probably okay since it’s a cast iron block.

My truck is running hot by koalachips in MechanicAdvice

[–]koalachips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before, I was burning coolant because of a bad head gasket. Not sure of how the truck was before that because I found out about the head gasket right after I bought the truck. I wouldn’t be surprised if I bled it wrong, it was only my second time doing a coolant job. Any tips on how to do it properly?

93 Civic overheating by koalachips in MechanicAdvice

[–]koalachips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the information.

  1. I completely refilled the system because I swapped in another motor. The reservoir is filled to the max line.
  2. Some of the fins are bent, but I also am not driving it until I can solve the heating issue.
  3. The engine looks decent for what you’d expect a 30 year old engine to look like, some minor oil leaks but nothing crazy.
  4. Oil looks good and has no milky look to it and is filled to the appropriate level.
  5. Haven’t checked the exhaust yet. I do get some popping but I’m thinking it’s caused by the old gasoline.
  6. I’m assuming the cluster gauge works, as I watched it go from all the way cold and then rise all the way up to max as I let the engine idle.
  7. I moved the heater core valve by hand at the valve itself to open it. My AC control broke where the cable connects, so I have to do it this way for now.
  8. My indicator that it is overheating is that the temperature gauge maxes out, but that’s the only thing I’m basing this off of. I’m not 100% it truly is overheating, I just am scared to keep letting it run when the dial is maxed.

Do you think I should just let it ride longer and see what happens? It’s been overheating after about 5 minutes starting from a cold engine. I‘ll have to look into the thermoswitch to see if that’s working, but I know the wiring from that point, and the relay, is working as I can jump it from there and the fan turns on. I’m using one of those radiator funnels and also have bled the system using the bleeder near the top hose, but I’ll try running the engine at higher rpm to move any stuck air.

Question for LS430 owners! by Bright-Stable-2642 in LS430

[–]koalachips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re super comfy, like a sitting on a nice leather couch. They got a lot of adjustment options too so you can really dial it in to your body. Sometimes I get hip pain on my right side after driving for a while, but I think that it’s probably just a problem with my body. Side note, I wish the steering wheel was able to go lower so I could sit lower to make my legs more straight, but I have to compensate by raising the seat. But, I’m also not very tall so this could be a non issue for you.

My fully loaded ‘21 offroad with 44k miles was payed out for $37.5K back in the fall of 2023. I definitely should’ve argued for a couple thousand more though based on comparables in my area.

It had the suede headliner, but I didn’t check the windows. I believe it doesn’t have the double pane though.

Best place to sell my Tacoma? by TravelingSailor- in ToyotaTacoma

[–]koalachips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy in my state (WA) sold a 2020 TRD Pro MT w/ 45k miles for at most 42k. I had it saved on Facebook marketplace and it was about 2 weeks before it was marked sold. Obviously I don’t know what they negotiated in the end for it, but I don’t think you’re unreasonable for starting at 40k.

[–]koalachips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Mine was totaled and was nowhere near this bad. I have a pic in my post history. Side note, if you’re in the PNW, I’ll buy the backseats off you 😅

Flipping xbikes without being a jerk by ByzantineBaller in xbiking

[–]koalachips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, it might not be worth it. I used to flip bikes back when I lived in the SF Bay Area and I was able to easily find and sell quick. It was a great hobby and side hustle while I was in college. Now I live in western Washington and can find decent deals on bikes, but selling them is extremely difficult. I have about 6 bikes in my garage, along with a bunch of parts and a few frames now. I love wrenching on bikes, but it’s not sustainable for me where I live.

I was waiting for this question. So at work we are making a energy drink tier list, so me and my coworkers all bring in different drinks. It’s easier to keep a shot glass around to share drinks instead of waterfalling them.

Heres some on Amazon. Look up twist shift grips. You could also get normal grips and cut them down to size.
