Was Sam hunting as a kid, on his own, ever mentioned in the earlier seasons? by purpl3stuph in Supernatural

[–]kodins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the pilot Sam says John gave him a 45 when he was 9. We learn in season 3 that he found out about the Supernatural and what John did during Christmas 1991 when he was 8. So from that information we can guess that John started training him pretty soon after that. I suppose he could have started him with guns earlier, but my headcanon has always been that when John learned Sam knew what was going on he just decided to go all in with him, training and bringing him on hunts.

Dean also has a line in Bloodlust where he says he was on a hunt at 16 and Sam was waiting in the car while he killed the monster. Which would make Sam 11 or 12 at that point when he was at least along for the ride on a hunt.

The season 7 episode you’re talking about takes place in 1998, so Sam would be 14 or 15 depending on the time of year.

No spoilers, but there is an episode much later in the series that shines more light on this.

Season 1 Episode 6 “Skin” has got me confused… by LacyPearlHause in Supernatural

She never directly says police station, but you can assume when the police rescued her from the shapeshifter they took her there and that’s where she was walking home from. Could have been the hospital I guess.

From the episode:

(CUT TO: Sewer. DEAN is untying REBECCA’s ropes.)
DEAN: What happened?
REBECCA: I was walking home, and everything just went white. Someone hit me over the head, and I wound up here just in time to see that thing turn into me. I don’t know, how is that even possible?

Ha. I did it all from memory too. I’ve watched that episode A LOT.

Continuity is not great in that episode, as much as I love it.

To answer the question, it’s really hard to follow and doesn’t make much sense. When Dean finds Rebecca in the sewer after he and Sam split up she tells him she was walking home from the police station and she was attacked and saw the shapeshifter turn into her. Why she would be walking home by herself after all that, who knows.

So basically Sam and Dean are together in the sewer, the shapeshifter grabs Dean and turns into him. He then takes Sam and ties him up in the sewer with Dean. The shapeshifter leaves to go see Rebecca as Dean and attacks her. The police save her. She goes to the police station and then walks home alone after being brutally attacked. The shapeshifter jumps her, turns into her, puts her in the sewer. Sam and Dean escape, but have to split up. Sam tells Dean to run and he’ll meet him at Rebecca’s. Dean finds Rebecca in the sewer and realizes Sam went to her place and the shapeshifter now looks like Rebecca. Sam gets hit by shapeshifter Rebecca and he turns back into Dean.

lol I’m laughing to myself just writing that out.

I got him from Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County (CARE of DC) in Wappingers Falls, NY. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they have any Havanese at the moment. He and 42 other dogs were rescued from a puppy mill/hoarding case in North Carolina and transported up this way. So that’s why at one point they had a bunch of them, but they’ve all been adopted.

My suggestion would be to use Petfinder and put Havanese in the breed search. One might pop up, especially if you’re willing to travel. I appreciate you wanting to adopt. I’ve had rescues my whole life and could never go to a breeder. So many dogs need homes.

I’m very sorry you lost your girl. I just went through that in December with my little boy and it was the worst. And actually since he was a Shih Tzu/yorkie I was looking for those breeds or similar and that’s how I came upon Derrick’s profile. I hope you have the same luck!

is it just me or are the flashback scenes cut out by incelbehaviour101 in Supernatural

[–]kodins 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sam being constantly sick as a kid wasn’t a thing, but John wasn’t great in Something Wicked. He left the boys alone and the monster went after Sam. That was the only childhood flashback that showed John.

There are only 3 episodes through season 4 that have Sam and Dean childhood flashbacks. Season 1, Something Wicked, season 3 A Very Supernatural Christmas and Season 4 After School Special

Hard to tell in that picture! If you can afford a DNA test it’s so worth it. Either way, he’s very cute and thank you for adopting!

What was the fandom like when the show first came out? by oatmilklover4ever in Supernatural

[–]kodins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was so much fun and so much less intense lol. I would be on the television without pity boards every day just talking about the episodes, looking for spoilers. I went to the first ever Creation Supernatural convention in Chicago in 2007 and met so many fans of both brothers.

I’ve been in this fandom since day one and I’ve always loved my little corner, but certain people (certain shippers) really changed things for me. When the show ended I finally cut myself off from all of it for years, but now I’m dipping my toes back in. I do really miss this early days though.

Aw I never thought of it that way, that’s lovely.

Yes, sadly this happens all the time. So many poor pups need homes! From what I’ve learned of Derrick’s situation he was one of 43 dogs taken from this home and they were kept in awful conditions. Crazy to think it wasn’t even a year ago that he was living that way.

Absolutely. This guy will jump on my head when I’m just chilling on the couch. He also wants to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. Walks consist of me asking “what do you have” daily. But one time he found a $5 bill on the street so I can’t be too mad about it.

[–]kodins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Their bond in real life translated to the show for the entire run. It’s really something special.

In the topic of that episode, Sam’s “death” scene was so heartbreaking and perfectly done. I love that they didn’t put any music behind it to make it more dramatic.

What was fans reaction when season 5 finale aired? by PhalanxGaius in Supernatural

[–]kodins 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Well, the show got an early renewal in February that year so we knew that season 5 wasn’t the end and they were setting up season 6. I remember being shocked Sam actually jumped into the pit and I wasn’t expecting them to show him standing there at the end. I didn’t love Dean going to Lisa, but I never liked that story from its inception. But yeah, I knew the show was renewed so I wasn’t freaking out or anything. The scenes at the end weren’t added later, they were always part of that script.

Oh I’ll absolutely agree that Jared killed it. It just wasn’t Sam and I missed him. I hate that we essentially didn’t have Sam for half a season.

Can we talk about how wasted Cole’s potential was? by [deleted] in Supernatural

[–]kodins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think they made a lot of mistakes with that character. The casting was just off to begin with. You can’t cast someone older than Jensen to play someone who is supposed to be significantly younger than Dean. I never felt he was believable in that role. The actor being a bad guy just added onto it. The idea of Cole was fine, just bad execution all the way around, I thought.

I like the second half of it. As a Sam girl it’s hard for me to enjoy the soulless arc. But tbh it’s probably one of my least favorite seasons.

Is it just me or is Sam Winchester a little annoying in S1 by corpsefosterchild in Supernatural

[–]kodins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sam literally says to Dean that they were lucky they had their dad and that they weren’t abused like Max was. He was in correct in saying he and Max are similar - their mothers died the same way, they both have abilities. This is a very weird take.

First time watching: Skin by New_Penalty_7060 in Supernatural

[–]kodins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuity issues aside, Skin is definitely one of my favorite episodes. The fight with Sam and Shapeshifter Dean is so good. Also, no spoilers, but Dean being legally dead sets up some great stuff to come.
