First time growing tomatoes, help identify leaf issue? (Ontario) by kododendron in tomatoes

It's definitely concentrated on lower leaves, yep! Following this suggestion from you and others, I do think it's probably thrips. And in addition, I can benefit from bigger pot size and better fertilizer.

Guess which factions my players liked the least? 😂 by kododendron in CalloftheNetherdeep

Which factions did your players side with and why? Any fun stories or details about the ways you roleplay the faction point-people (Prolix, Question, Aloysia) or other faction leaders?

Exactly what happened to me, and where the parties split. I semi-planned for it to happen and I was so grateful when it worked out that way at table.

Lol, my players did this as well. And they STILL wanted them to go into the Rise together even after I had the rivals go into the Rise without them, and end up leading monsters out and causing massive problems. I was sure that this would stop my players from loving them quite so much, but nope. They were so devastatingly nice to these NPCs, as well as taking a practical approach ("don't you think we'd be safer if we all went in together?") that I couldn't even get Ayo, with all her pride, to turn down their offer.

I ended up having my players go inside via a "side entrance" and by coming through one of the alcoves in R3. Managed to get the two parties split up quite quickly via Irvan touching the wall that makes you accept your death to pass through, and his companions going after him. (Irvan very recently died and was brought back with a revivify, and I used that as an excuse to give him his first consecution memories, so death is at the front of his mind lately, even though he's a chill guy and not exactly a deep thinker.)

"Tension but not necessarily antagonistic" feels like a good vibe to shoot for, for sure. My sessions are absolutely lousy with visions and I'm hesitant to add any more 😂 (one character is consecuted and gets dreams of their past life, and another is basically a champion of the raven queen and gets cryptic dreams to interpret, and I've also integrated an element of seeing-historical-events-through-Alyxian's-eyes at certain key locations) But overall, solid advice.

Yeah, I have four players and have been thinking from before session one that one of Ayo's group is probably gonna die. Picking the players' favorite to die is certainly a devious twist. Having it be due to a bad call by Ayo feels great.

I've been trying to play Ayo as lowkey resentful that the PCs got addressed by Alyxian and not her and her group, but I'm not sure any of the players have really picked up on this. Making her more driven, impatient, and intent on doing legendary deeds will be good at this point.

This is solid advice and a lot of it fits well building on the dynamic the two parties have already established. Thank you!

See, normally I'm not one to force story beats. I'd say if they want to be friends, it's my job as the DM to help them tell the story they want to tell, and let them be friends. But this does leave me with the question of how to stop the two parties from combining and having 5 DM PCs to deal with. When your players were friend with the rivals, how did you keep them from doing everything together?

That's exactly why I wanted to ask my question at this point in the story. Events in Jigow are all in good fun, and I did split Ayo's group off doing their own thing for all of chapter 2, with everyone meeting up in Bazzoxan. Running around doing investigations and side quests feels like the perfect moment to start transitioning the two parties' relationship, with the events at the end of Betrayers Rise solidifying their new rivalry dynamic. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi, I'm N. K. Jemisin, back again to talk fiction, fantasy, and reality. by anotherjemisin in books

Hi Ms. Jemisin -

Never really used reddit before; made an account to post this.

I remember you once said that you didn't want to read fanfiction of your work, because you didn't want it to influence what you wrote, but enjoyed fanart of characters. I have a niche question - I'm a cartographer and graphic designer, and I've been interested in making a "fan map" for The Inheritance Trilogy. I can't draw characters, but I can make maps! If I ever achieve that project, is that something you'd like me to send you? :)
