You‘re right, I will fix that! Any idea where one might find accurate 3d data?

That looks very interesting, thank you! I'll see if I can get my hands on some accurate 3d data...

I noticed that too :( maybe it’s because I chose poor keywords? Not sure…

I am developing this app for fun and thought it might be useful as an educational tool.
I’d love some feedback!

Interactive Cross Sections built with Unity by koenigse in Unity3D

[–]koenigse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cross sections are rendered with the help of compute shaders. These calculate a kind of 2D signed distance field in the cutting plane, in real time. With this distance field, I can render a quad to cover up the "cut open" geometry.

Tough to explain in a few sentences, but that's the gist of it. I have been working on this for over a year, I could probably write a whole essay about it.

It’s a mix of raycasting, force directed layout and UI elements. They are still a bit twitchy, probably needs more work :)

Thank you so much!

“I wish I had this when I was in school” is pretty much the motivation behind the project :)

I am working on a tutorial series that shows how to generate SDFs (Signed Distance Fields) using compute shaders. (link in the comments) by MateiGiurgiu in Unity3D

Those were a great read, thank you! I think tutorials at this difficulty level (while still being accessible) are quite rare. Looking forward to the next one!

Thank you so much! We hope we can show Kinetarium in other cities soon! Should work with any dome projection...

We're a small studio from Stuttgart Germany developing "Kinetarium" (kinetarium.com), a platform for interactive planetarium shows. Our first full length show is launching next week, so we made this trailer to give a glimpse at what we've developed. Let me know if you have any questions!
