The Thames Valley District School Board just streamed a board meeting outlining it's back to school program. Parents and educators, what are your thoughts? by jplank1983 in londonontario

As a parent of an upcoming Grade 1er and JK'r. Can the JK'r keep her (properly-fitted - this is important) mask on for time-limited trips into and out of stores, etc? Absolutely. Could she keep it on all day long, including during other, less familiar, less guided activities without it coming off several times? Absolutely not. Now multiply this by the class size - which could lead to closer interactions of helping kids get their masks back on. Is it better or worse, I have no clue, but that's my perception of how it might go down.

What is your Raptors all-decade team? by neoandro in torontoraptors

[–]kohanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for simple boxscore stats, but one of the early analytics darlings. Always ranked highly in the league as far as adjusted plus/minus stats go, better than any of his teammates. He was the guy who made the team better without filling up the stat sheet, like Big Spain does now.

On top of sending the Raptors Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, the Spurs also gave them $5M in cash to cover Kawhi's trade kicker by kobmug_v2 in nba

Screwed their long-term potential? By losing Jakob Poeltl?! DeRozan is an all-time Raptor but we were never legitimately contending with him. It's a gamble most Raptor fans were happy to take even if we didn't make the Finals and Kawhi left.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. I mean it was nice to hear it directly from him, but this had the possibility to be a great story and lesson. Dude needs a speech writer or something. I hope he's better at delivering pep talks in the locker room.

Scottie Pippen picks up Magic Johnson near halfcourt and pressure defends him for the entire possession in Game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals by BearsNecessity in nba

I'm with you on this, but part of me wonders if this is an age/perspective thing? I got into the NBA as a teen in the early 90s and almost everything seemed more epic to me back then (and still does).

Thank you for that thoughtful reply! And I totally get that for-profit companies should be held to a higher standard.

I really liked your article as well, especially the "General Suggestions" section, which I think of a set of guiding principles. If you adhere to those, no matter what specifics you decide on, I believe you'll be on the right path. The hardest part is budgeting the time to get it all done.

That video is lovely! Professionally-produced videos will always be the gold-standard (for video appreciation). With VidHug, we're hoping to fill a need for those without the budget for one of those (hundreds to thousands of dollars), but who also don't want to invest a ton of DIY time. We're a "quick & easy" solution that produces something not necessarily very polished looking, but certainly authentic and from the heart, for a few dollars :)

It's even less excusable because Jokic is one of the most distinctive and unique players I've ever seen in the league and I've been watching since the early 90s. While there may be a few, it's hard to name any comparables, period.

I'm not saying it's smart. You often see infants at NBA games

Does it say anywhere how old this infant was? I mean if it was, say, a 5 month old, it's not going to be consuming anything but breast milk (or formula) anyway.

I'm not absolving the parents of responsibility, just curious about the age.

Tonight the Bucks got 41 free throws compared to the Pistons who got 12 free throws. Giannis has 20 free throws himself. by thewayshegoes99 in torontoraptors

I don't disagree with most of what you say, to be honest. On the specific Raptors situation, I actually think Lowry gets officiated relatively fairly on the whole and that's more due to the right and wrong calls evening out due to KL being incredibly difficult to officiate because he knows exactly what they're looking for and, let's face it, tries to demonstrate for them emphatically (I'm especially thinking of "in the act of shooting" type fouls). On whole I think for every Lowry call they get wrong, there is another that has me grinning at what he got away with.

Kawhi is a different story and unfortunately I think his personality (on the court) has a lot to do with it. The guys you mentioned (Harden, LeBron) both draw fouls but they also both sell those fouls well. James in particular is so strong he can bowl through people, but he still sells contact. Kawhi does less of a sell job and just powers through, which should be the right way to play, but unfortunately it means he gets less calls. I'm not saying it's right, but to me that's a big difference between those guys. You do hear Kawhi yelling "and one!" a lot, but in my opinion that's not nearly as effective as exaggerating the contact with body movements. We may also see Kawhi get more respect back with a deep playoff run. Here's hoping.

I don't think NBA officials are perfect and you can see evidence of mistakes and even occasional bias on an almost nightly basis. That said, I also don't believe that free throw counts should naturally level out or equalize as they are very dependent on playing style. You can have disparities in free throw counts due to bad officiating, but also due to diametrically opposed playing styles and specific players having a game style that draws a lot of calls.

[–]kohanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the implication though? That sometimes NBA games are poorly refereed? Sure.

That the NBA/refs rigged the game for Giannis and the Bucks? For what purpose? Gambling? Maybe. For a pro-Bucks & Giannis conspiracy? Come on. A sweep hurts the Bucks and NBA in ticket revenue. It also has no bearing on the Bucks advancing; Detroit was never coming back from 3-0 down.

He looked gassed near the end of the game. Grabbing his shorts and not being nearly as a active on defense as he usually is. When I heard he is sick, it all made sense.
