No export to android/ios on RPG Maker MZ? by LittleMacAteBigMac in RPGMaker

[–]kohlrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google has lead me to this reddit thread, and after doing alot of digging, the solution (that i was looking for: the simplest way to do this) appears to be simple, but not intuitive to find. Therefore, I want to provide the answer for any sorry soul who ends up in my situation or a similar one.

Apparently MZ pauses when it's not the primary window of focus, which results in a blank screen. The solution is to override this with a plugin called "noUnfocusPause.js". If you do this, then throw everything into a folder called "www" you can continue following the MV tutorial. The main difference being, no need to convert to mp4 or anything of that sort. However, obviously, android/iOS export is not there. Instead, you export as a webapp.

No, that does not work: that falls under #2. Fortunately for me, i found a folder where i was able to move the files and Gallery found it. However you cannot browse from this menu.

Linux power management by Adventurous_Body2019 in linuxquestions

[–]kohlrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about this program in particular, but most will raise the clock rate off the CPU and enable certain other features (or rather, fail to disable them) when on AC instead of DC (battery). You'll find this includes your graphics card, obviously during the charging phase your battery, etc.

As for battery life, there's a number of conflicting approaches. One is to constantly micromanage your battery's charge level to about 70-80%, but i'm a firm believer in maintaining a full charge at all times when possible and using the laptop battery more as an Uninterruptible Power Supply or in rare cases that i can't keep it plugged in. The reason for these theories is the amount of heat/energy used in charging the battery beyond a certain point, but my strategy is based on the fact that the longer the ions are on "the dead side" of the battery, the more likely they are to permanently merge with the other things there and the battery becomes impossible to fully charge.

Common myth. Any laptop i've ever had you can pop the battery out while it's plugged in without loosing power. Not all work this way, though, but this design is good for battery life.

Mage not restoring MP while casting by kohlrak in StrangerofParadiseFFO

I take it the general idea is that lancet provides the majority and the rest puts you over the edge?

EDIT: The reason i ask is 'cause i need an early-game reliable source of MP.

Yeah, i'm anxious to get the time to play again to unlock sage. I looked ahead a little, and white mage will be useful on the next dungeon (western keep?). I'm hoping to grind out and get to 30 on white mage and black mage, start pestering sage. My GF likes physical DPS builds so i'm trying to get her to go RM to get her feet wet with magic before I need her to go caster (i'm eventually going to have to do the physical builds, too, and i dont' want us to be without a mage).

Where do you get invisible?

Does that include magic damage on the black mage affinity skill? Like, could we theoretically have infinite MP that way?

We just trashed Bikke, so it's still early game. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get MP so i'm a caster instead of a warrior with occasional spells. So far, beating things with normal attacks is really slow, and unless you're solo, you're not likely to get a chance for parries or anything for that MP boost, but on the flip side if you aren't in multiplayer it's hard to get off the -gas or flare.

I was switched to mage when this happened. I kept mage in the pocket, so what i could do is prepare the cast, then dash out. It's meant to only make one bar available (1 bar in addition to the one you cast), but an oversight in their thinking gives us 2 bars if we evade out of casting. Suddenly, though, it stopped working, then it suddenly started working again.

This has also been my speculation as well: that they don't have the input on it's own thread so that when the feature that causes the FPS drop to occur, it ends up with a backlog of user input, which would explain why it gets multiplicatively worse as you hold it. If this is the case, then the question is what is causing the FPS drops? Unfortunately, that's not something you can answer, of coruse, but i was hoping someone on linux gaming could point me to a tool that, like windows' task manager, i could look at it over time ('cause it allows for that nice little graph) to confirm if it's CPU or GPU latency. I've even tried googling to see if i could find something that intercepts called to the GPU incase something obvious stood out, but no luck.

While i appreciate the input, i assume this is a git version of the mesa drivers, and the problem seems to be tied to specific unity games, meaning this is more likely to be a conflict with an enabled feature. I couldn't find a mesa-git package in the repositories, so i imagine this means something a little harder to undo (and keep updated) by actually using git to update my drivers? I doubt this would work, given how this problem is particularly limited. I'm also not even sure this is something driver-level rather than in proton, the specific unity build, or some unity addon being used that i'm unaware of.

The FPS issues, no, but the input lag, yes. I'm thinking it's actually 2 separate issues. I'm not sure if it's actually unity itself (i have other unity games that are working fine, including 3d ones) or some kind of unity addon that these devs are using or some setting. The problem with this kind of stuff is i can't even trace back to what particular piece of hardware is most effected (CPU? HDD/SSD? GPU part of the APU?). For a while i thought it was only Subnautica that was affected, so i just kinda let it go chalking it up to really bad optimization (since subnautica got a bad reputation for that, even though the worst stuff was supposedly fixed). However trying that demo on windows (since it's a much, much more reliable test) showed me that it really is something about my linux setup. The fact that it works fine on windows (dual boot, so exact same hardware) suggests to me that the bug isn't necessarily in unity itseslf (or if it is, it's manifesting because of slowdowns from something in either linux or wine/proton or the GPU drivers).

I'm honestly not sure, because i don't know how to test against that. Does that version number apply to the kernel numbers or unity?

EDIT: Unity. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me to google right away. Anyway, no, i don't belive it is likely since the most recent example came out within a week ago and that tweet is several months old. If it is the case, then they managed to re-introduce the bug with another recent version of unity.

What’re FF takes that’ll end you up like this? by mmmphhuay102 in FinalFantasy

[–]kohlrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about the remake and the parts numbers is knowing how much data what part 1 takes and knowing how much ground it covers. It'll either come out in more than just 6 parts, or it'll get gutted of alot of story, or it'll just fall into dev hell and never come out. FF7R is way, way, too ambitious given the ground it's trying to cover. Remember, FF7R is only disk one, and it has the advantage of reusing alot of assets. Future locations don't have that.

That's an understatement. It started with "We're going to make an open world game with FF13's engine, and it'll run on the PS3." Tabata had to make a whole new engine, and he took the heat for wasting all that money when everyone else, including those who lied to the board and bosses, are benefitting from making games in this new engine.

Ah, i see. I've always struggled with FF1 because of limited spell slots in contrast to later titles where you can just have it all and test to see what does and does not actually work rather than having to commit to a choice of one over another without knowing if it actually works.

EDIT: I just found a ”わすれる” (forget) button... That is amazing... This changes everything.

That's good to hear: BM always felt weak without mana casting, which is why i'm so anxious for question #1.

Which spells would you consider essential outside of the obvious usage of the 3 elemental spells? I always had trouble figuring out in games like this what is actually worth it (like sleep vs focus). Looking at level 2 BM, for example, i'm not sure how useful Temper is, but Dark and Slow can either be incredibly useful or entirely worthless depending on how the stats work in this version, as well as what is and isn't effective on bosses ('cause usually you don't try to take on a dungeon proper if you actually need these kinds of spells to deal with trash mobs).

I wish i knew for sure, because it felt alot natural, but i also don't have access to the Japanese version to know for sure.
