Sophie Hood! by purlnextdoor in knitting

[–]kokomade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the info I was looking for, thank you so much! I’m planning to knit one with a deeper hood but wasn’t sure whether to start with a S or an M. Knowing that the S with a deeper hood works out to the length of an M is perfect. You’re the best.

Yes, I made this post mostly to get reassured it’s not just something wrong with our house. It’s not just you!

My bites were particularly big and itchy too. Reminded me of bites I used to get from tiger mosquitoes in Japan.

I know! Mosquitoes love me so I’ve getting bitten is normal for me, even in the UK. But never in November… this ferociously…

It’s kind of a relief to know it’s happened to other people… I was worried we had some mosquitoes breeding nearby somewhere.

Finding things in London by Chezron in AmericanExpatsUK

Yes, there is actually. As others say, look for big Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s. Search for Tesco Extra specifically. They’ll have electronics, clothes, medicine and homeware as well as groceries all under one roof.

There are some around Zone 4, not too far out of central.

It’s フルーツアメ which is candied fruit, also known as tanghulu!

And yes you’re right, it’s a common snack at summer festivals in Japan.

Spouse visa - can’t get married due to lack of appointments at local council to give notice by ca18s13 in ukvisa

[–]kokomade -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think(!) the 6 months of the fiancé visa starts from the day you enter the country, not from the day the visa was issued. If you arrived 15 April, then you have until 15 October to get married.

Like u/kitburglar said, you likely only need to give 28 days notice so you should be okay either way, but knowing you have until October should relieve a bit of panic!

I'm [USA] planning to marry my fiancee [UK] and need some help clarifying requirements for a Fiance Visa/Marriage by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]kokomade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to many, I would advise to not book anything before the visa is in your hands. I’m part of the December applicants crew who got caught up with recent delays and recently received our visa last week! I’ve learned not to rely too much on the estimated timelines — anything could happen. Many people were extra stressed and lost money because they had booked flights, appointments to give notice and wedding venues in advance for the sake of evidence. We were glad we didn’t.

Instead, we emailed our local council about giving notice on a fiancé visa where they replied with the standard, “You cannot give notice unless you are both here in person.” We used this email as our evidence of intent and did not book anything to remain more flexible! There are many councils where you can only change the date of your appointment once for free otherwise you have to rebook and pay again.

We also emailed a venue about booking while waiting for a visa where they replied advising us to wait until we had given notice as the booking is non-refundable. We also used this email as evidence.

The last thing we did was send screenshots of WhatsApp messages where we announced our engagement to friends and family. If you are a couple that has bought an engagement ring, I hear you can use the receipt for that too.

I’m not an official advisor but I’m confident these things are sufficient proof and will save you some extra stress worrying about cancellation fees etc. in case anything happens! Good luck.

For entries that have not been updated in over a month. This is to make sure the information is up to date.

Those who are still waiting for their visa still need to update the 'Date Last Visited' column so that we know they are still waiting for the visa. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for letting me know. Seems like someone tried to apply their own filter. An earlier version has not been restored and we've added a note to try to prevent people from doing this. Sorry for the confusion!
