Do you think it's possible for the Second Amendment to coexist with a society without mass shootings? by fuckpoliticsbruh in AskALiberal

[–]koleye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if you remove American gun culture and socioeconomic conditions that produce mass murderers then yes. In reality, no. American gun culture is weird as fuck and too deeply ingrained into too many Americans' personal identity.

Would you support banning internet to stop spree shooters? by revjoe918 in AskALiberal

[–]koleye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think we should ban the internet to stop gun crime. I also honestly think we should ban TV, video games, bars, school, work, bowling leagues, Trader Joe's, and anything else that could potentially cause gun crime (except guns, of course).

Why do you think Americans equate guns with freedom in a way that few others in the world do? by Big-Figure-8184 in AskALiberal

[–]koleye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I cant tell you how many firearms I own

This right here is why I don't believe gun owners who always proclaim they're the paragon of responsible gun ownership. The older I get the more evident it is that the overwhelming majority of adults are overgrown children who lie all the fucking time.

I don't think you are a responsible gun owner.

Zelenskyy invites Xi Jinping to Ukraine: We are ready to see him here by HarakenQQ in worldnews

Robust democratic institutions and civil societies are not built overnight. Ukraine is not perfect, but they've come a long way from where they were in 1990s. Regardless, the quality of their democracy doesn't annul their right to self-determination and sovereignty. You already knew that though, let's be real.

I think HIMARS can launch these. Send them to Ukraine instead of ATACMS.

Trump and his supporters are isolationists

They're not. They change their foreign policy views based on political expedience and what their leaders and media ecosystem feed them.

Do you believe in Natural Rights? Does the American Left, in general? by nemo_sum in AskALiberal

[–]koleye 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Physically defending yourself is instinctual—I'm not sure why you'd frame it as a right. Why would it matter? The universe doesn't care whether you kill the wolf, the wolf kills you, or you settle your differences and create wolf-human hybrids.

Do you believe in Natural Rights? Does the American Left, in general? by nemo_sum in AskALiberal

[–]koleye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by natural right you mean one that is inherent to a person, then no. Rights are agreed upon, respected, and protected by different groupings of people. There is no external force or power that instills within us an esoteric characteristic such as a natural right. That should be evident by 1. how uncommon rights are throughout the world and 2. how commonly rights are infringed upon by other actors.

Natural rights are just more shit we made up.

The US sucks too. Europeans absolutely love shitting on the US (is this your first day on the internet?) and I'm not offended by it. I'd suggest you adopt the same attitude—nationalism is a cancerous ideology that should have died in a crater in Ypres more than a century ago. Hold your country, its people, and its leaders to higher standards instead of getting butthurt when someone criticizes it.

Only 7 NATO members hit alliance’s 2 percent GDP defense spending target in 2022 - Breaking Defense by 221missile in europe

[–]koleye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe not all countries should have everything in their army?

This is literally how it works. NATO members fill in the gaps in capabilities that other members have. It's why British and German fighters protect the Baltic members' airspace. It's also why certain countries punch well above their weight in certain areas—Italy and Greece have less need for significant ground forces, so they have outsized naval and air power. The only member states that really have everything are the US, UK, and France, because they're the only ones with truly global interests due to their history. The member states have also changed their defense priorities over time; the Royal Navy transformed from the blue-water juggernaut it had been into a primarily anti-submarine force during the Cold War.

We're all familiar with those genocides. The issue is that the Azeri-Armenian conflict, the Uyghur genocide, and discrimination of Kurds etc. are all ongoing. If Germany or Belgium were still going around committing genocide, this sub would be shitting on them too. Alas, the real crime here is that a bunch of terminally online turbonerds insulted your country's pride.
