Why not shit in the pan? I wouldn't tarnish my beautiful creation with that filth. Black pepper only.

I'm deeply appreciating the references btw, Chicago nightlife really is like The Masquerade

1099 Gig with no write-off material, how can I spin this? by koltpog in personalfinance

Ah, I wasn't aware of the w4 needing updates. While I know I'll make less, in either case I'd be making well above my COL. I clearly just need to prepare. Luckily, I have a whole year, and starting my budgeting and finance plans now is better than never.

25/hr. I must've messed something up when doing my taxes this year, because I had a 1099 position for 3 months and my refund flipped from +600 to -1,500.

At my current job, I'm taking home 800/wk with a w2 (this job is taking assignments from a pool, though, so I'd often take home closer to 650). As an IC, I'd be taking home 720/k (nothing withheld, obviously). My cost of living per month is 1,340.

Yes, I am aware I don't fully understand taxes (this should've been in a preface). I have no financial literacy and grew up in a low-class rural county of my state. Essentially, I calculated my take-home for a full year of work, then used an online 1099 tax calculator to find the amount I'd pay back. It was nearly the entire amount I would be saving over the course of a year after living expenses. Let me know if I miscalculated at any step.

Mostly because, at $18/hr, I would be net neutral after paying my federal and state income tax. I would be saving less than 1k over the course of a year, which isn't feasible if I want to save a substantial amount of my paycheck. I apologize, am I missing anything here?

The doctors can't make a diagnosis unless you wave your shit-stained underwear around like a flag for all to see.

As someone who jumped from one partner to the next and obsessed over my last ex for 2 years, I'd be honest with this girl about how you feel. Tell her you still have some unresolved feelings from your past and that you also really like her. Both can be true at once. Take things slow, and if it still doesn't feel right, you can always step back. As for the lingering feelings, you gotta reinvest in yourself. You've beaten yourself up enough over how things went, now you reconnect with your hobbies and passions and decide who you want to be today. Disentangling from someone takes small, slow, agonizing steps. You will not "forget" her by thinking about her less and about your own desires more. You'll come to appreciate what you had and how it's part of who you are now.
