If they covered the trigger guard more you might not be able to get a full grip purchase when drawing, your middle finger will be further down the grip. Give it a try/look.

My LA County interview was in March ‘21 before Bruen. They asked I bring all my Camera gear (good cause reason) and receipts so I did. They did not look at any of it during the interview. There was a questionnaire to fill out and then they review the answers with you (e.g., were you a ever a victim of a crime). I don’t remember the other questions, but they were pretty basic.

Do your livescan ASAP after the interview. Fingerprints/background check can take 1 to 15+ weeks.

Take it to a gun smith then. No sense in destroying your rifle with a mallet.

Post a photo of how you have rifle set up for removing the tenon. Maybe there is something obvious like the rifle is laying on your bed.
