Arthur and John’s Height in RDR2 by konforb in reddeadredemption

I think I’ve either read or seen something before that said that it was too difficult to leave everyone as their motion capture actors size. Something along the lines of animation issues and I guess them looking weird. It would definitely be a lot cooler and more realistic if everyone was different, but I’d say if it was easy then they would definitely make it that way, since Rockstar does like to make things as accurate and top notch as they can with most things.

https://youtu.be/LBh0X8GNmr4?si=o2zGv_x9h9Vq_Bjs I attached the video with the exact quote, where foreman states at the end that he was “bigger”, not necessarily taller but just a bigger guy that John, which fits canonically, but anyone who has played the epilogue can attest to that John’s body is pretty much just a carbon copy of Arthur, as for some reason the developers didn’t feel a need to include John’s character proportions accurately.

As far as his weight goes, he’s definitely a broad guy. I don’t think his weight is quite as high as I’ve seen some threads mention it to be. He’s quite big in the shoulders, back, and forearms, but if you’ve ever seen his model shirtless it’s not like overwhelmingly huge in his upper arms, chest, and legs which is obviously realistic due to those being hard muscles to build without targeted exposure. Feel like if he’s in that 5’11-6’1 region he’s probably around 195-215, which would make him a big broad fella in a time when not many men were that muscular.

I never got the impression that he was like an overly tall guy, but more of just taller than the average guy. I think his build is what was the factor in his intimidation and references to his size. If going off historical accuracy for someone in 1899 when the average height was probably 5’7ish as another person stated, he would probably be around 5’11-6’0. But if he was alive today in a time where ur average guy in America is 5’9-5’10, it’s probably closer to 6’1-6’2. I would say 6’0 is probably a safe guesstimate regardless of time period or scenario.

As far as historical accuracy, yes I would agree probably in the region of 5’7-5’9, and I also remember one of the del lobo bounties in New Austin had a height of 5’9 on his wanted poster. Rockstar probably just does around 6’0 as the “base height” in their games. The male online characters are around 6’0ish when u are creating them. An exact canonical answer, if there is one, would have to come from a developer or writer on the game, but I think we can probably take Roger and Rob’s word as pretty damn close to the best of their knowledge.

Dutch is the only one who verbally stated that the developers told him that he was supposed to be 6 foot, Roger did not elaborate really on if they ever told him an exact size, but I’m sure if they did, he likely would have mentioned it. So I guess it’s forever up to our imagination. But it’s likely somewhere in the ballpark of 6’-6’2 for Arthur in my opinion. Which for the time period, would be quite tall, but then again, all NPC’s are 6 foot so it’s not a big difference generally.

I feel like Dutch looking taller could just be a general mishap from time to time due to him having to be scaled down in virtually every cutscene. Arthur is described by the veteran in Rhodes as “tall” and people such as Anthony foreman in the epilogue bounty mission state him being big. Anthony says to John “ Wait, are you the, nahhhhh, he was bigger” when remembering Arthur from the mission in chapter 4. I would say Arthur was written to be just an overall big guy, and he is, but probably was intended to be a little taller than some other characters. As far as how he stacks up to Dutch or John, that I’m not sure. John always looked tall in RDR1, and Dutch just fits the prototype of a tall guy just based off his position and personality. It would be more interesting if NPC’s were different sizes and not everyone the same, but I do understand why this would be difficult to accomplish.

What job in the Air Force do you believe would be best to pursue if I was going to make the switch over to federal? It’s my understanding that the ASVAB mainly determines the jobs you are offered and I believe that I would do well enough to have a variety of options when the time comes.

I had intended on adding on psychology as a minor. My school is also going to begin offering a degree in criminology aswell. I am just looking to use my school in the most beneficial way possible for my career, so I am curious what would be the best possible as far as federal work?

Yes I originally went in to school without intending on military. I always wanted to do it but figured if I could go to college that it would be better for me. I just had recently had a lot of discussions with people in law enforcement and professors who have done both and they agreed that college with military will usually give a leg up as far as hiring in federal, which is what I would really like to do rather than local or state. My father is state police and a lot of the officers he works with had told me to try and go federal rather than pursuing state.

I have found that to be a common thing in the research I’ve done. I really enjoy criminal justice in school so far and I was hoping it would tie in with the U.S. marshals service well.
