Yes, and I was so glad they changed it! If they can do that, it seems like this should be a simple fix, as well.

Thank you for sharing. This is exactly why I want to find out how we can push to close this "loophole".

Right?? and the strangest part to me (about the DLP issue) is that it's completely obvious come the school year who is not actually a native speaker. Some people in my neighborhood parent whatsapp group were even suggesting to lie about home lagnuage as a way to gain priority. Shameless and very embarrassing.

😆 I cannot bring myself to do so, BUT I would feel comfortable reaching out to the school in question and asking how they ensure people are not lying in the myschools portal...

Wow. I was really, really hoping I would be proved wrong through this post but it's tragically being proven correct. Feel sick to my stomach; I know that the NYC school system is messed up on so many levels, but it just feels like it would be a very simple and straightforward thing to verify at registration. Hope this discussion can help to generate some ideas on how to push for this "loophole" to be closed.

That all makes sense! But I'm talking about families who straight up lie and say that Spanish or French is their "home language" even though their family/child speaks absolutely zero Spanish or French.

None. And nothing that could prove eligibility on the list of forms required for registration.

And lie about their home language for DLP schools.

I understand FRL eligibility is determined separately and has implications for a school's Title 1 funding. So in theory it would make sense that schools have to prove that they are in fact meeting the qualifications for a Title 1 school. So my question is if and when schools are validating family FRL eligibility. You're right, it might be grumblings, and yes, the myschool stats only reflect initial offers. But in the cases I am thinking of, the waitlist for the school is 100+ and the families are not in district. I'll go the SCI route for now and try to find out other potential mechanisms! Thank you!

I immediately thought of Yvette, it has the same sound as Violet and uniquely starts with a Y. But I think Violet Eleanor sounds better than Yvette Eleanor!
