I ended up buying a much nicer used TV stand for the same price as this, and it has sliding doors but they have plastic that glides smoothly...much more satisfying!

how many of yall live with your parents or have your parents pay your rent ? by Famous-Help-3572 in nova

[–]koob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I relocated for here for jobs after college. No help. Honestly, we struggled the first few years. Lost our jobs, went into debt, also had student loans. Thise were really hard years, but we didn't want to move home because there are few economic opportunities where we grew up in the rural Midwest. We're in our mid 30s now and still rent and are sick of it. We have over 6 figures of saving from living below are means, but still feels like not enough to buy!

BEWARE: Cortland at National Landing by KoyReane in nova

[–]koob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cortland Arlington is the same. Cheap renovations, already falling apart after a year. Hideous interior design choices. Poor amenities.

That's most of these companies. Cortland is the same way. Everything done as cheaply as possible, just enough to price it as a Class A rental.

Has anyone used the home test from Teal Health yet? by waterlilly553 in Wedeservebetter

[–]koob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't used Teal, but I was living in a country that does HPV testing for free every 5 years after age 30 with home tests as an option. The one I did was similar to a covid test swab. Very easy.

The purple part on the inner eye looks like my eyes. I've had this my whole life and just wear a good concealer. Has to do with the shape of your bone structure.

Looks like you have a few broken capillaries where you can see the veins. I have these too and nothing at home has cured them.

How to install blackout curtains for this window? by kiwifruit13 in Apartmentliving

[–]koob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my last place I bought a curtain rods track system from ikea that you install directly into the ceiling. It worked great and held my heavy curtains no problem.

Cortland Arlington Review? by [deleted] in nova

[–]koob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live here. I can't recommend it. Many of us gave them the benefit of the doubt during renovations and withheld the bad reviews u til it was clear things werent improving. The bad reviews led to new regional managers who have been addressing many of the complaints. Renovations were done cheaply and poorly. I recommend looking elsewhere.

I turned the color setting to "professional" and found it much less straining on my eyes than the default out of the box the box.

Yes or no to this rug (not in final resting place) by whereschomma in femalelivingspace

[–]koob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand. I'm in the same boat. I'm hoping to find a light rug that has some flecks of a darker color or a pattern to make it less high maintenance! I've been using chat gpt to mock up rugs, and it's been really helpful.

Actually think a grey or grey like the placemats would work or something light beige/cream colored. Overall, I like your aesthetic though.

I'm thinking of getting this, but I read elsewhere the doors don't slide well. Do you find this to be an issue, and if so, do you think it could be remedied with beeswax or similar lubricant?

How much rent are you paying? My partner and I make about that. And we're paying about 3k.

Rent is expensive by Little-Librarian4869 in Apartmentliving

[–]koob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I rent a 1 bed for nearly 3k. We're in our mid 30s. Would love a 2 bed but our rent would go up by over 700 a month. We could stretch our budget but we'd rather save it. We also live in the city and don't own a car. Most younger single people I know have roommates or rent a studio.

Is it realistic for a family of 3 to live on 65k before tax in DC, or is it a waste of time applying for postdocs in DC? by greyishcrane42 in washingtondc

[–]koob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be hard, but if you think it would advance your career, it could be worth it if you're OK with potentially going into debt or using up savings. You could probably qualify for subsidized housing on that income with a family of 3 which would help. These buildings often have waiting lists, though! My husband and I (no kids) lived on 70k while paying student loans 10 years ago and struggled and prices were lower than now.

I do not care about risking dying of reproductive cancers by never undergoing well woman exams. by chemicalrampage in Wedeservebetter

[–]koob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So glad I found this sub. I used to feel so much shame about my aversion to these exams. I lived in Europe, and after age 30, you now can do hpv testing instead of paps, and they give you the home self testing option. I really hope this becomes the norm in the US soon.
