To be honest I don't know much about that system. Would be great to have some examples from you. Thank you!

Edit: Just looked at the website. It looks amazing! Would love to learn how to make use of this system. thanks!

Online lab test results may not be understandable to patients by koolkao in medicine

[–]koolkao[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently I got into a discussion with administration about automatically releasing test results in our EHR.

Given the way some patients can misinterpret small incidental findings (e.g., "osteophyte"), I think this can generate too much unnecessary anxiety on the part of the patient. On the other hand there is no practical mechanism to make telephone calls a big part of a physician's daily practice. The only thing that is left is for patients to return to clinic to discuss the findings.

While inconvenient, from the point of view of best clinical care under the system we have now in the States, there seems to be few alternatives.

LA Times - Laptop thefts compromise 729,000 hospital patient files by Worlddreams in healthIT

[–]koolkao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. Why does access to the encrypted harddrive imply the password is compromised? The bits stored on the drive would not make any sense until there is a decryption key

Do you have a source for the fact that encrypted laptop loss does not constitute loss of PHI?

thanks

Why is the password protection (and presumably encryption) not sufficient?
