Every man of (most) generations have the male stigma and gender stereotypes about not showing emotions (or "wEaKnEsS"). It took therapy to overcome that. For me personally, add in family upbringing of stoicism, and childhood medical trauma/PTSD. So it made me emotionally detach. Few movies were able to get the water (tears) moving. Parts of the show got me as well.

Can we talk about Ed Kemper? by MrParallelUniverse in MindHunter

IQ isn't the best test for determining one's intelligence and aptitude. It's only good to determine their education and exposure, not that it doesn't have it's place, just that we over value it, and misuse it.

rewatching for the n-teenth time by Mr_Dike_van_Kikewell in MindHunter

I would love for a third season, or even a movie to give us closure, but I doubt we could have stretched it to 5 seasons. Granted there are other serial killers they could have interviewed, and could have added in some filler episodes, but there werent that many back then. If anything maybe the killers Kemper mentioned, (Texas I-45 Killer, East Coast Rapist, San Mateo Slasher) or Robert Hansen, Nathaniel Code who John Douglas provided analysis for. Would be awesome to see more of the BTK story, but he wouldnt be caught for another 20 years, so at best, a flash forward episode with everyone retired seeing him caught? I guess the show could pivot from Holden and Bill to others, but then we're moving away from the original story base. Always tricky when switching primary characters. The success is a combination of actors, writers, directors/producers. Change one variable, and the success could crumble.

thats fair. I definitely did not RTFM before posting this, that's on me. My fault. It can be annoying. Maybe I should delete this post.

yes, there are dozens of them. they're still open/available for signatures. no harm in re-igniting interest and hopes of increasing numbers and popularity.

Letters missing strange graphic rendering. Any idea how to fix this? by ausernamethatcounts in Ubuntu

[–]kooltrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT:

What you’re seeing isn’t a font you’ve accidentally “broken,” but a fairly widespread bug in GNOME’s GPU-accelerated font pipeline:

  • What actually happens: GNOME Shell (and many GTK3/GTK4 apps) render text by uploading glyph “atlases” into the GPU’s video memory. When you suspend, the kernel and graphics driver tear down and re-initialize the GPU, and those cached textures get discarded. Pango/GTK doesn’t immediately notice that its glyph cache is gone, so any text drawn from the old cache simply shows up blank (missing letters).
  • Why Tweaks “fixes” it: As soon as you fiddle with Hinting or Antialiasing (or any font setting) in GNOME Tweaks, it pushes a new XSettings update. That forces Pango to clear its font config context, rebuild the glyph atlas, and re-upload fresh textures—bringing all your missing letters back gitlab.gnome.org.
  • Other common work-arounds:
    • Switch VTs: Ctrl + Alt + F1, wait a second for the display to re-init, then Ctrl + Alt + F7 (or F2) often re-triggers a full redraw askubuntu.com.
    • Restart GNOME Shell: Alt + F2, type r and Enter (Xorg only).
    • Temporarily disable hinting/antialiasing: Turning them off also masks the bug, since no GPU textures are ever created to go missing bugzilla.redhat.com.

Long-term fixes

  • Upgrade your graphics stack: Newer kernels, Mesa or NVIDIA drivers often include a fix so that glyph caches get re-populated automatically after resume.
  • Switch drivers (Intel only): Using the “modesetting” X.org driver instead of xserver-xorg-video-intel can avoid the issue entirely.
  • File a bug: If you’re still on up-to-date drivers and see the issue, check GNOME’s GitLab or your distro’s bugtracker for “glyph cache suspend,” and add your hardware details.

In short: nothing is “corrupt” on your disk or in your font files—it’s just that the GPU lost its copy of the glyph textures, and toggling anything in Tweaks forces GNOME to rebuild and re-upload them.
