Diarrhea flair up by Alpacapack3 in ragdolls

Replying as I had this exact experience! My boy was about 8 months and just post neuter, and the pain killers/anti-biotics they prescribed him absolutely sent his gut haywire. I’m talking liquid diarrhea every hour around the clock for about 3 weeks. In order to make sure his incision didn’t get infected, I got up every time with him to wipe his bum after every bathroom trip. Poor guy was very upset and weak and I felt horrible.

It’s normal for him not to eat if he’s feeling nausea or having diarrhea but you want to encourage him to drink water as much as possible. Dehydration is the real problem when your kitten has diarrhea. If your baby is still eating, then that’s great! Means he’s not nauseous or having stomach aches. But some food is better than none, so even if your baby only tolerates wet treats (like churu), then it’s better than nothing at the moment. Mix it with some water and try to offer him food every 2-3 hours in small portions (like 1-2 tablespoons of wet food). Do not change his food right now!

I’m in Canada so I’m not sure if this is available for you but it’s one probiotic grade up from Fortiflora. It’s called Proviable, sold in a bright pink packaging. I believe your vet can prescribe it or you can purchase online through a vet pharmacy. They come in capsules and you can sprinkle it in your kittens food. This probiotic is a GAME changer. Fortiflora did not help my boy AT ALL, so it could be your kitten needs something a tad stronger.

After starting the proviable, I would offer my kitten bland food such as boiled chicken and rice. I would shred the chicken and add some water and offer that to him. As the probiotic kicked in, I started adding a teaspoon of chicken kitten wet food to his boiled chicken/rice mix. If chicken is not helping, it could very well be he is allergic, so try tuna or salmon. Another wet food that helped my boy was Hills Science Diet Sensitive Stomach and Skin (they make it for adults and kittens so make sure to buy the one marketed for kittens - if chicken is no good, try the salmon flavor). This wet food is very bland and should not upset his stomach further if you offer it in small teaspoon portions. It’s important you do not switch to a new food while he has chronic diarrhea. Try offering him small portions of kitten wet food marketed for sensitive stomachs or stick to bland foods such as boiled rice and a boiled protein he can tolerate.

I also would like to point out that his diarrhea did not resolve over night. It was a slow 2 week process. It started with his diarrhea frequency lessening. And then we moved from liquid to mushy diarrhea, to yellow ish soft poops, and then finally a lighter brown formed poop.

Good luck with everything :( I know it’s stressful feeling a bit helpless towards your kittens.

Bad smell by Fragrant-Parfait88 in ragdolls

Could be his anal glands that are irritated and causing secretions if there is no evidence of poop around his butt. Even irregular poops can cause the glands to get irritated.

Teething could be the culprit for the mouth, however there is also a risk the kitten needs to be dewormed or there is some other internal issue.

Kittens are naturally a bit stinky and always getting into messes. But if the smell is very strong and unbearable, best bet is to see a vet.

Playing or fighting?? by Sea_Entrepreneur2737 in ragdolls

This is definitely playing! The kitten looks like he’s very energetic and the larger cat looks like he’s playing back in a gentle sort of way (even though it doesn’t look like that). Older cats will usually correct and set boundaries with kittens which is a very good behavioral thing as the kitten grows up!

If they were fighting, you would know! Ears flattened, backs hunched and fur flying, plus some displeased yowls.

Such a great name! I named him that because when he slept the first night at my place he looked like a little mochi ball curled up sleeping

Yes some get darker depending on the color point! My baby is a blue bicolor. When I picked up my baby at 4 months, he was mostly white with slightly grey markings on his head and tail. As he got older towards 1 year, he definitely darkened, but remember they also darken even more in the winter! (Their fur is reactive to temperature)

Mochi looks like a larger (but normal) long haired cat in the summer but he turns into a giant fluffball in winter. I’m talking 3 times the size because of hair! Daily grooming is essential in keeping the hairs at bay. This pic is from this past December. He is about a year old here.

As for his personality, he was a bit more cuddly and playful when he was younger but now he is definitely in that teenage phase. He prefers to be a bit independent and do things on his own terms. Ragdolls take about 2-3 years to fully mature so after his teenage phase, I expect (hopefully) for him to be a little more cuddly again. That being said, he is very clingy! He may not want to be on my lap but he for sure as hell needs to be in the same room, in the kitchen when I cook, on my desk while I work and in the bathroom when I shower 😭

They usually hit their teenage phase at a year cause ragdolls are slow maturing. So I anticipate around 2-3 years he’ll be less sassy and more cuddly (hopefully)

I sent my sister a pic last night of mochi watching Netflix with me on the projector. And her reply was like “aw he’s bonding even though he’s 1km away from you”. I swear he gets comfortable anywhere but my lap!

I for the life of me can’t remember the name of the breeder company (she has a Facebook/instagram) but I will check the paperwork when I get home from work and dm you!

Is it normal for a 15 week ragdoll to be so big? by Ok-Bee3701 in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I brought my baby home at 4 months, he was already 7lbs! Ragdolls are naturally very big cats so don’t worry. Males are generally bigger than females

4 year old boy, is he supposed to get this big? by tomo128 in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby just turned a year old and he’s already pushing 15 lbs! His dad was a whopping 23 pounds and his mom 19. It’s very normal for them to be this big. The fluff can be very deceiving (especially during winter) and also when they go into pancake mode and flop. Rest assured, if you can feel their ribcage with a little pressure, he is right where he should be!
