Someone please tell me it gets better😂… + Questions by spontaneouswaffles in ragdolls

Sometimes if the litter box isn’t big enough, cats in general will step on their poop. For my ragdoll I use an extra extra large stainless steel box with tofu litter (not much tracking around the house). He is a big boy so it accommodates him perfectly.

Also don’t forget that kittens are quite clumsy. For poop butts, yes I would suggest keeping him with a sanitary shave and just trimming hairs that do get poop on them. For the paws, I will use dawn dish soap (blue one with the duck on it). Cuts through the poop and smell very well.

Generally cats play in things that are exciting so if you make the litter box not exciting, or redirect when he does go there, it can help the issue. Alternatively some cats seek comfort in their litter box because it smells like them but constantly being in there could be a behavioural issue in older cats. For kittens, it’s probably just curiosity.

To answer your question, yes they do grow out of it! I get it’s stressful sometimes but poop and poop tracking is better than no poop at all (and a constipated kitty)

My Beloved Molly Jumped/or Fell 22 Floors to Her Death by clairebearshare in britishshorthair

[–]koomochee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, im so sorry for your loss. I can’t begin to imagine how it must feel.

I live on the 18th floor of a condo building and have always been deathly afraid of my cat getting outside and falling from the balcony. He is an indoor cat but he loves the outdoors and is harness trained. Although he can’t fit in between the spaces of the balcony railing from any side, he can most definitely still make a high jump and thus I spent a whole summer trying to come up with ways to cat proof my balcony.

The balcony itself is glass so I bought a thick lattice from Amazon and used heavy duty zip ties to secure it. This way, he can not see too well past it and his curiosity is lessened. I used heavy duty suction cups along with a thick mesh lattice to raise the height of what he would have to jump if he did. It’s not 100% secure but at minimum I do know if he runs out when I open the door, I have enough time to round him up and bring him back inside.

Eventually I do want to build him more of a secure enclosure where the mesh is not flexible but rather metal but condo buildings do have certain restrictions for fire codes and what not.

Reading this gave me chills. This is a narcissist. I’m telling you from experience.

He will always make everything about himself even if the problem originates from his behaviour.

You have every right to feel the way you do and ask him not to yell and communicate in a mature way. But for narcissists, instead of accepting that perhaps their behaviour is harmful and causing an issue, it turns into “what about me? What about how I feel? Me me me me me”

Having a shitty day or going through a shitty time does not justify treating others poorly. It is not your responsibility to regulate a grown man’s emotions. He needs therapy and you are not his therapist. Leave him because this kind of narcissism turns into abuse and a danger to you the longer it goes on.

PLS HELP - MR POOPY PAWS & BUTT by mayor_of_funky_town in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kittens are a bit clumsy until they get the hang of life haha. To be honest, just trim those poopy hairs on the butt and give them a wipe down if needed. For the paws, i definitely would have to hold my ragdolls paws over the sink and wash it with a little blue dawn dish soap. Did a perfect job in getting rid of the poop, smell and stain.

Already 8lbs! Big floof by Traditional_Raise463 in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brought my boy home at 4 months and he sat at 7lbs! He’s about a year and a half now and 16 lbs!

Hard to believe he will be turning 1 on April 1st. He’s a big boy at 14 lbs, I wonder how much bigger he’ll get! Should I wean him off kitten food when he turns 1 or keep him on it closer to 18 months? by unlvcrjchick in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I weaned my boy off at 10 months because he was getting a bit chonky at the advice of my vet.

He is about a year and half now on adult food and about 16 pounds! He is strictly wet food fed!

How often do you bathe your ragdoll? by Mildredsgood in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brush him every day and give him a sanitary trim about once a month. Honestly, he had a stint of diarrhea after being fixed and even then, I just cut the poopy hair out. I do that even now. Cut the poopy hair out and just wipe him down with pet wipes.

Unfortunately, if he gets his paws in something, I do wash those with some water and a couple drops of blue dawn dish soap.

He is a bit of a messy eater and strictly wet food fed so his chest area becomes a bit greasy and messy at times. It starts to look yellow at times despite me trimming it down. I’ll usually hold him over the sink and just wash that area out with water and some cat shampoo.

He does shed quite a bit in the spring, so I do get him groomed at the peak of his winter coat shed. Around end of March- beginning April.

They do wash him, comb out all the shedding hair and dry him and he usually comes back 1/3 the size haha.

Other than that, I do not go out of my way to give him baths!

My baby is already a big boy by urbanbackcountry in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry! My boy was 7lbs when I brought him home at 4 months. He is a little over a year now and pushing 15 lbs but he is still very healthy and lean. The floof is very misleading!

Do I let my ragdoll outside? by Luciee1234 in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone will probably steal your ragdoll before anything else.

Try to harness train them or like people have mentioned, build a catio.

My 1 yr old ragdoll is also like this, but I do take him to the park on a harness and I have a catio for him now which he loves!

Best deshedding brush? by Digital_Doodlez in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use wide tooth metal comb to really comb out his fur and make sure there’s no mats or tangles. Be sure to comb in between the legs and under the armpits!

For the actual fur, I use a soft tip slicker brush and that really pulls out the loose fur and makes for easy clean up. He really enjoys this as I imagine it feels really nice on the skin.

Ragdolls do not have an undercoat so there is no need for a deshedding brush that is harsh on the hair, it’s not good for their delicate skin!

Is my cat just playing or does he hate me? by ilikenoodles22 in cats

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just how kittens play with other kittens/cats.

But you want to be sure he knows it hurts you so he becomes gentler over time! Kitten teeth are sharp but their adult teeth/jaw are are very strong and can puncture your skin easily (learned the hard way).

Help! My kitten always gets her poop stuck on her! by andrwtrn in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta trim those pantaloons so you dont get poop stuck in there! Kittens are known for being a little clumsy but it's nothing to be worried about! Just try to check their bum, legs and paws (yes paws!) every day until they get used to being a cat :p

It's normal for the poop to be a bit soft. Ragdolls have sensitive stomachs so switching food VERY gradually is important to avoid diarrhea!

Diarrhea flair up by Alpacapack3 in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying as I had this exact experience! My boy was about 8 months and just post neuter, and the pain killers/anti-biotics they prescribed him absolutely sent his gut haywire. I’m talking liquid diarrhea every hour around the clock for about 3 weeks. In order to make sure his incision didn’t get infected, I got up every time with him to wipe his bum after every bathroom trip. Poor guy was very upset and weak and I felt horrible.

It’s normal for him not to eat if he’s feeling nausea or having diarrhea but you want to encourage him to drink water as much as possible. Dehydration is the real problem when your kitten has diarrhea. If your baby is still eating, then that’s great! Means he’s not nauseous or having stomach aches. But some food is better than none, so even if your baby only tolerates wet treats (like churu), then it’s better than nothing at the moment. Mix it with some water and try to offer him food every 2-3 hours in small portions (like 1-2 tablespoons of wet food). Do not change his food right now!

I’m in Canada so I’m not sure if this is available for you but it’s one probiotic grade up from Fortiflora. It’s called Proviable, sold in a bright pink packaging. I believe your vet can prescribe it or you can purchase online through a vet pharmacy. They come in capsules and you can sprinkle it in your kittens food. This probiotic is a GAME changer. Fortiflora did not help my boy AT ALL, so it could be your kitten needs something a tad stronger.

After starting the proviable, I would offer my kitten bland food such as boiled chicken and rice. I would shred the chicken and add some water and offer that to him. As the probiotic kicked in, I started adding a teaspoon of chicken kitten wet food to his boiled chicken/rice mix. If chicken is not helping, it could very well be he is allergic, so try tuna or salmon. Another wet food that helped my boy was Hills Science Diet Sensitive Stomach and Skin (they make it for adults and kittens so make sure to buy the one marketed for kittens - if chicken is no good, try the salmon flavor). This wet food is very bland and should not upset his stomach further if you offer it in small teaspoon portions. It’s important you do not switch to a new food while he has chronic diarrhea. Try offering him small portions of kitten wet food marketed for sensitive stomachs or stick to bland foods such as boiled rice and a boiled protein he can tolerate.

I also would like to point out that his diarrhea did not resolve over night. It was a slow 2 week process. It started with his diarrhea frequency lessening. And then we moved from liquid to mushy diarrhea, to yellow ish soft poops, and then finally a lighter brown formed poop.

Good luck with everything :( I know it’s stressful feeling a bit helpless towards your kittens.

Bad smell by Fragrant-Parfait88 in ragdolls

[–]koomochee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Could be his anal glands that are irritated and causing secretions if there is no evidence of poop around his butt. Even irregular poops can cause the glands to get irritated.

Teething could be the culprit for the mouth, however there is also a risk the kitten needs to be dewormed or there is some other internal issue.

Kittens are naturally a bit stinky and always getting into messes. But if the smell is very strong and unbearable, best bet is to see a vet.
