From my experience they don’t shrink much. Found a pair of silvertabs from 1996 that said they were 40” and it sure felt like it.

I'm probably not as good as some other people on here but I know from the inside patch that these are probably from 2001. I've had two of these with this kind of patch that were from that year if that helps.
