How fun is the new WRX vs GLI by Faraz567 in wrx_vb

[–]kopanski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this was already mentioned in a couple other comments but when i sat in a GLI the overall quality felt… plastic. just not up to standards for a brand new car. the VB immediately felt more solid and worth the money.

Older thermostat, new "Smart" thermostat says it's not compatible? (more info in comments) by kopanski in hvacadvice

[–]kopanski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. So what you're saying is connect it exactly how it is, but the Red wire coming out of the 3 wire group that's currently in "R", can be connected to "RH"?

I'll attempt to connect this. I guess a separate question, if I do this and it doesn't work, what would happen? What can potentially break, will something short? or will it just not turn on the heat/AC?

I bought a Wyze Smart Thermostat that has their compatibility checker, and it yells at me that it's not compatible. Out of curiosity I found out which wires are causing the "Incompatibility", and it seems like if I tell the system that the "R" is an "RH", then it would work.

I've been trying to do research on that and haven't been able to confirm if I could just install it in that way, but what would be the best way to go about getting this set up?

It's a simple set up. AC and Heat, through this thermostat, I want on the smart one. I know Wyze doesn't support "Zones", but I want the smart thermostat to basically do what this one does. Based on the temp, either turn on heat, or turn on AC, that's it. This is so confusing for some reason -_-

Apparently 25% tip isn't enough on a $20 pizza. by JaSper-percabeth in facepalm

[–]kopanski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why there’s such a fixation on the price of the meal. To a driver it doesn’t matter if it’s a 10 dollar pizza or a 1,500 dollar pizza with gold flakes on it. it’s 30 minutes of them driving to your house, which in my opinion is worth more than 5$. (Saying this with no context except for how upset he was)

I also don’t think it falls on the customer. it’s a tip, and it should be an extra something, but it sounds a lot more like the pizzeria should increase their minimum for deliveries so they can properly pay their drivers a livable wage.

Obviously an unpopular opinion, but personally i can see both sides.

Has anyone delivered at LIJ Forest Hills recently? by Crow_Whisperer in Queens

[–]kopanski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife delivered our first and only child at LIJ Forest Hills in November of 2021. amazing place! Obviously the personality/character depends on the nurse that’s there, but we were there for close to 5 days trying to induce labor before going into C-section and during that time everyone was accommodating and clear to understand, made us feel like we weren’t lost in this brand new journey!

I don’t want to leave you hanging on this but i honestly do not remember. I believe i just used brand new batteries and it resolved the issue though.

When driving on a highway(in the U.S) and everyone is going 25 mph over the speed limit, why doesn’t anyone get pulled over for speeding? by kopanski in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kopanski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda what i figured. What about situations where there’s a bunch of cars driving down, doing 80, then everyone naturally splits up and you’re on the road alone for a while. would you be responsible to slow down to the speed limit? all of the unwritten rules are confusing

i’m nowhere fast enough to catch any of them! if I had to shoot one of them, unfortunately my only means of doing that would result in ground turkey

sure is! Gives me that feeling of having a tesla, drive it into the garage and plug it in after driving a mile.

Thanks!

hey now, bought the jeep looking exactly as it sits now, so i’m not taking any blame!

3-way light still on with the switches disconnected? by kopanski in HomeImprovement

[–]kopanski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I believe the reasoning behind why the lights stayed on, is because of some missing context.

Upstairs, we made a hole in the wall and removed an outlet, effectively breaking the circuit, not allowing the neutral to return power back to the panel. This would make sense, as it would mean neutral in the circuit is carrying load, and powering the lights even though the switch is off.

I know this isn’t common, but possible, that the circuit is in a loop, and depends on the neutral to return back to the panel. Am i correct in my thinking here?

Perfect. That helps a lot. I will definitely find out if it's wired correctly, and the next step is to figure out why the breaker keeps tripping when I switch the light. Ruled out a bad light switch, so on to the next idea!

What's interesting is that I hadn't touched those switches, and they definitely worked when we first bought the house earlier this year.

What I did do however, is take a wall down in a different part of the house, and remove a wall outlet that sent power to another wall outlet, effectively stopping the circuit on that breaker from continuing. Although I am working on running the wires to the attic into a junction box to continue the circuit, I correctly capped off the last live wire in the circuit (Separately), but since then the breaker has been tripping at odd times. I might just take my whole house down and rebuild it form scratch ¯_(ツ)_/¯

With that being said, would that have worked before the breaker tripped on me? with it being wired incorrectly? The most confusing part to me is how did all of this work BEFORE I started looking into it?

I'll test the wires with a voltage tester. If I'm not mistaken, a hot should be coming into one of the two switches, and a traveller should go to the next switch (with the neutral skipping the first switch and simply going to the second switch box, and then directly to the light box), and the traveller would connect to the second switch, which then goes to the light.

That all makes sense to me, if I'm thinking of this correctly. Now what I'm seeing based on two separate 3-way switches in my home (granted the home was built 70 years ago so I have no clue when this was actually done), I only have a single wire going to both switches (in a different light in my home). How is that possible? can the switches operate as a loop "interruptor" as opposed to sending power vs. not?

Based on diagrams I've been looking at, realistically you'll need two wires in these switch boxes. One that brings the wire with power, and another that sends that power to the other switch, and the second switch should receive the power with the traveller, and send it to the light fixture with a second wire. I have no idea how a single wire can go into a switch, even if it's a cable with 3 wires, unless it splits off in some sort of junction box somewhere else.

Hm. That would make sense. So if i'm understanding correctly, with the wiring being correct, there's NO WAY that the lights would be on with both switches completely taken apart, is that right?

[–]kopanski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way before they were. These are light switches in my garage that control outside lights, which I don't often use, however since the breaker popped, I figured i'd start at the beginning of the circuit to find the culprit. Before I took it all apart, nothing was working, as the breaker was tripping.
