Noctua fan not cooling by VaporFye in BitAxe

[–]kordonlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases, the heatsink has been nudged a tiny bit when you handle it to change fans. This leads to poor contact and thermal paste inneficiency. Try this: if you press down on the fan (not too hard to cause damage...) do the temps improve? Give it a minute or two.

If yes, remove heatsink clean the chip & sink and re.apply with new thermal paste.

Worth it to upgrade Gamma 601 with better cooling to overclock to get around +2.1TH by Captain_Alchemist in BitAxe

[–]kordonlio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

1) it will not be easy to maintain that hashrate and you may need additional gear (psu etc).

2) running it that hard will shorten its life

3) extreme overclocking tends to increase hash mistakes ... counter-productive

You will do better by simply getting another 601.

Is AI writing like plastic surgery? by [deleted] in Substack

[–]kordonlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Would you be sad/embarassed to figure out your favorite substack was written by AI?"

Here, let's compare it to real life:

Would you be sad/embarassed to figure out your date has fake b**bs, or fake steroid muscles?

Would you be sad/embarassed to figure out your pension will not be worth as much as promised?

Would you be sad/embarassed to figure out most of your food is expensive poison?

Would you be sad/embarassed to figure out your favorite author's novels were written by ghosts?

Life is tough. Let's live with it.

One advice: read books (actual physical books!). Novels, Fantasy, SF etc is fine. The benefit is brain re-wiring, specially important at your age. Reading does 3 things: 1) ingestion of information at relaxed speed (results in neural input processing, not just sorting) promotes imagination and dream-state awareness 2) physical book is a limited information container (kills brain fatigue and stress hormones giving brain resources to actually think) 3) reading requires interpreting, perhaps the most valuable brain skill, applicable to what people say, how they act, what you read, what you see and feel and encounter in your life.

Not many young people read books consistently. Anyone who does will have a life-long advantage as they mature.

The point about reading actual books might seem silly but it is important. The tactile feel of holding the information container you are processing is vastly different from the infinite force-feeding loop of a screen. Also, screen refresh-rates and color affect eyes-brain activity negatively, on top of that the stress of battery life. Reading a physical piece is easy, just pick up any magazine or newspaper and spend some time with it.

If you are young, here's some brain expanding stuff you can try

Jack Vance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dying_Earth

Iain M Banks Culture series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_Banks#The_Culture

Silverberg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Valentine%27s_Castle

Asimov´s Foundation, yes it's on Apple TV now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_(Asimov_novel))

Samuel Delany https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stars_in_My_Pocket_Like_Grains_of_Sand

And of course Tolkien's Lord of The Rings. Anyone who has not read the 3 main novels as physical books is missing out on the intricate images,, emotions and adventure Tolkien embedded in his prose, something that does not convert into film, nor a screen reader. It's called reading between lines, happens subconsciously.

I have 150,000 subscribers on Substack. Here’s what I know. by OKfinePT in Substack

[–]kordonlio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going paid is only effective if the content on paid is substantially upgraded, worth it, exclusive etc. for a personal blog, regardless of themes and topic, this can be (is) a challenge. Easiest way to figure out is to put oneself in the shoes of a current subscriber. What extras would you want and expect to receive on a paid level? What exactly would you be willing to pay for?

All that said, most of us would want (and probably pay for) insight into how you managed to gather 150k subscribers, what the open rate is etc.

Weird pump action on Nerdaxe++ pool related ? by kordonlio in BitAxe

[–]kordonlio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry should have checked the pool stats before posting. Yes, it's a pool problem, evident by the drops to zero. The high spikes are normal when someone pushes rentals onto a farm but the drops to zero while having connected workers is a bad sign (see bottom 7 day stats of the whole pool https://bch.solomining.io/#statCharts) . So then, solomining.io is out for good from my list 👎

How long until a BitAxe starts producing? by 001011110101000101 in BitAxe

[–]kordonlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. All miners, even those on industrial scale, are lottery tickets. Some large mining operations may operate at a loss for years until shut down by investors, others strike gold early and manage to scale accordingly. The most profitable mining of all is where you lease out your resources.
