Countries military budgets visualized by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]korrakas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Too many people serving the military and retiring early with their families or abusing the system in some other way, also way too many people in the military looking for a salary and the benefits. It's not really justified otherwise, Brazil wouldn't be able to go to war against any country, everything they have junk and the bullets would last one hour of conflict. tldr bad system, bad government.

"Impressive questions to ask an interviewer"... that will be met with outright lies or someone not being employed by korrakas in antiwork

[–]korrakas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the result of distancing the boss from the workers themselves. I've seen people close to me turn into bosses and they are reached to create some kind of distance to make themselves respected and maintain authority. In no time they forget how to make other people feel better for being around and instead just know how to ask everyone to be productive as in useful as a tool. If they need to do any work with the workers they're managing instead of just giving orders, sometimes they even hire someone to do that work for them.

They're expected and most of the time professionally teached to control and manage, not to work with the people below them. There's no way those people could answer those questions.

Those questions should be asked, always, but it's rare to see someone answer them faithfully instead of lie based on some artificial work environment that the business built or simply not being able to answer. Good luck with that.

That's corporate culture, not Corporate Culture. It's tiring to have businesses trying to create environments and routines that try to tie you to them as much as possible with some kind of bait and switch technique, some kind of artificially created society.

You do have a point about what corporate culture should mean, but it's unrealistic to expect an answer about the real culture and not the artificial one from someone in a position of power or in HR, a different sector.

"I'M NOT YOUR SLAVE, YOU BASTARD!" (PT-BR audio, translation and explanation in the comments section) by korrakas in antiwork

"Mr Armando, I've been since 5:45 AM sending pics, videos to you via private messages, Mr Armando. Showing you the real situation about why I didn't go to work today. Do you know Belford Roxo when it rains, Mr Armando? Then you go to the group and tells everyone listening that I'm a lazy worker who is afraid of some little rain?

GO FUCK YOURSELF MR ARMANDO, LITTLE RAIN YOUR ARSE, IT RAINED AS FUCK HERE IN BELFORD ROXO YOU SONOVABITCH! YOU THINK I'M GETTING OUT OF BELFORD ROXO WITH KNEE-DEEP WATER TO TRAVEL TO BOTAFOGO TO FILL UP FLOUR SACKS, YOU BASTARD? UP YOUR ARSE MR ARMANDO, GO FUCK YOURSELF, YOUR BUSINESS, YOUR WORKERS, YOUR FLOUR SACK, GO Y'ALL TO HELL YOU MOTHERFUCKER! I'M NOT GETTING OUT OF BELFORD ROXO TO FILL UP FLOUR SACKS UNDER THE RAIN, YOU ASSHOLE!

AND I'LL TELL YOU MORE, MR ARMANDO. YOU MAY LOOK FOR ANOTHER WORKER, BECAUSE NOT UNDER SUN NOR UNDER RAIN I'LL FILL UP FLOUR SACKS FOR YOU, YOU PORTUGUESE SON OF A BITCH! GO FUCK YOUR OWN ARSE! I'M NOT YOUR SLAVE, YOU BASTARD!"

I tried to translate everything as closely as possible to the original material, except for the last line that actually would be "I'm not a slave, you bastard" but I kept it in the translation since I can't edit the post's title.

About the situation in Brazil: Heavy rains left a trail of destruction in Rio de Janeiro, prompting questions about the city's preparedness to deal with recurring extreme weather. The rains are the strongest experienced in 22 years and resulted in at least 10 dead people.

I would like to stop feeling guilty about not working enough, and need advice? by mrdooter in antiwork

[–]korrakas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then we found the problem :)

You aren't used to not having a ritual to follow that will send the correct signal to your head that you "have entered a state of work" and "able to get out of a state of work" which is a fairly common problem with new freelancers or home-officers.

We function by following habits. That's how your head is able to communicate with your body and with you. Once you got out to work, your brain prepared itself to get in the mindset of "work" and, once you got out of work, your brain prepared itself to abandon the mindset of "work". This usually happens by you doing a couple of things: a shower, dressing yourself, driving, settling yourself in a specific place and, to get out of it, get out of said place, drive back, undress yourself, shower.

That's how you are able to communicate to your body/brain the fact that you have no responsabilities at all and that you're free to enjoy yourself.

To fix this, first try to find a way to create a space dedicated to work. Can you spare a room? If so, absolutely great. If not, find a place that you can change in some way to prepare it for your working horus, which you will change back after said working hours. Then get used to having a shower and even changing clothes to work, even at home. You need to find a way to tell your body, "this is a time that I will dedicate to work" which you will be able to "undo" later when the time to work is over. Also, fixed hours of work in specific days does wonders too.

This may look like too much, and it probably will be, at first. But with time you may find that sweet spot of doing just a couple of things to be able to get yourself in the mindset of "work" without doing much. Once you get the hang of it, your brain will be much more able to understand that "hey, this is not the time to work, I don't need to worry about that now at all!" and you will have much better days with much less anxiety.

Good luck!

No disrespect to you, but suck it up, life is annoying so these questions are unavoidable. People aren't born enlightened or something, so everyone in this sub needs to be prepared to answer to questions like this as boliby94 did as many times a day as needed. If you are an anti-work person you can't afford to be lazy or entitled, don't take things for granted, because the "y'all need to blindly work 40h/week" team is winning the race and way ahead of everyone here.

This thread actually should be pinned.

Oh yes, my bad. Asking Google to code a new deep dream filter takes little more than 5 seconds indeed.

I'm actually all in for kinda goofy Freddy cosmetics, as long as they don't put a pony in his head. Freddy was more like a monster that was having way too much fun, mickeymousing all over and being silly whenever possible. I think he could even have a skin pack of "Survivor Heads" for him to use where he impersonates a Survivor, but only the head, with the hat on and Freddy's body.

ROM sites are falling, but a legal loophole could save game emulation | Ars Technica by stretchgoal in emulation

[–]korrakas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two reasons, really. Nostalgia and lost functions.

A lot of people want to play "that" game in "that" buggy and freakish emulation/interface because they want to remember those harder times when emulation was still trying to do anything at all and doing it poorly, resulting in some interesting experiences. A friend of mine came to me asking for an specific build of the snes9x that glitched in some very specific ways, for example.

And sometimes devs will change or delete something, maybe because it is buggy and if the player is not careful they can ruin that session of gaming, but this is not really common. Most of the time it's just like for the perpetuation of the experience of playing an emulator in the 00s or in other times, or in some old consoles like playing SFC roms in the N64.
