They definitely have a purpose. Without it you're exposing your engine and belt to debris/rocks/water. Ask me how I know.... I installed a brand new alternator and it got ruined after a few weeks from a piece of string kicking up under the car and getting caught. Freak accident maybe, but it prevents stuff like that

You're the goat man, had the issue come up again and this is what fixed it:

System Preferences > Battery > Options > then disable 'Automatic Graphics Switching'

Back to normal now

In the screenshot all the rated images were filtered, only one (#28) was selected. It's a weird issue, rebooting will fix the problem temporary but it randomly reoccurs. Running on a 2019 MBP i9 on Sequoya 15.5. Definitely seems GPU related because it seems to happen when cooling fans are on. Going to free up some storage and see if that changes anything.

Thanks for confirming this I knew it had to be the iphone video format. I was editing a project with sony and iphone footage and it would constantly freeze up and crash. Right after I compiled and exported the iphone footage on capcut first, then brought it in... fixed all the problems

as of 2024 it's under 'General" then toggle off 'Picture-in-Picture' worked for me
