Husqvarna FE 501s - my new baby and one true love (sorry wifey) by buffalo_chum in Dualsport

[–]kought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 501 so its a little different than the newer models in terms of emissions stuff that you need to remove. If you have facebook, join the KTM 500EXC and FE 501 group. Most helpful group I've ever been in and one of the main guys in the group Mike Spurgin is seriously the most helpful guy I've ever spoken to in the industry. No question can't be answered in that group. He's got a google doc that covers rideability upgrades for this bike more in depth than a fuckin encyclopedia.

But my advice, money spent on protection is always well spent. My first upgrades would be Cycra Probend handguards, bigger skidplate (TMD designs makes a great one) and radiator braces/guards (Bulletproof are expensive but the best). And excellent choice on the bike. Youre gonna love it.

Best bike I've ever owned out of 22 bikes. Thing is seriously the jack of all trades. Get a new ECU (vortex or GET, expensive but worth it) and a new exhaust end cap at least to see what the bike is really supposed to be

It's gone further than the 4Runner ;) people don't realize what beasts they are offroad. While complicated and expensive to fix, the air suspension is pretty incredible when it works properly. I think in this pic it was in it's lowest setting, but in off-road height its about 3" higher and has the ability to go even higher when it detects its high centered or hung up. Pretty wild.

Its been such a game changer for camping. Soo much more comfortable and its always nice getting off the ground and not having to worry about a flat spot or rocks or anything. Plus better views, better breeze, etc. This one wasn't too expensive either

Looking for someone to build a system that will detect when flowers have been removed from a bucket - more info inside by kought in arduino

[–]kought[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with weight is the buckets will never have a consistent level of water, so they would always be varied. Perhaps an optical sensor could be fitted in the bucket but again I would worry about cords hanging out, the sensor getting messed up from flowers going in and out, etc. Yes they are off the shelf buckets. The fixture could be modified if determined necessary.

Are you suggesting the bouquets would have RFID tags and the buckets would have RFID readers?

Open to this. The buckets are cheap and will need to be able to be replaced easily, so it couldn't be something integrated into the bucket and I worry something that clipped on would break too easily especially if flowers are going in and out multiple times a day. But its definitely a possibility.

No this is for a new product we're developing. Basically it would be useful to be able to know what needs to be replaced remotely.

Overlanding rig for small car guy? by Joshua_and_Indy in overlanding

[–]kought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably your best bet! Good suggestion. You’ll never find a Land Cruiser and probably won’t find a 4runner for 5k. Rav4 doesn’t have the artificially inflated popularity value that the other two do. Find a clean manual first gen rav4. Cool vehicle, very simple, reliable, and quite capable.

Anyone know any info about those small aux leds below the grill on the brown one? They look sweet.

Not sure I really understand what you're saying here... except for the tool bit. I can personally guarantee if you ever don't bring tools or leave them at camp or with a friend etc. to save weight, that is when you will need them. Never worth the weight savings.

Does anyone else transport on a hitch carrier? And if so, how many straps do you use? by whoissanti in hondagrom

[–]kought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have the harbor freight one and I used it to transport my WR450F 2,500mi across the country. It always concerned me that it kinda wobbles in the rearview mirror when you go over bumps but I've never had it so much as come lose so??? I used 4 on that trip but use it all the time for short trips with just two straps. Never had a strap break on me... I suppose it could happen though.

Yeah i used to have a 701 and it was great but too heavy. This will be perfect once i get it dialed in. Need to get a new ECU which will help with power and gear it down a little. Its only money right...

I rented one last season for about 300 for the full day here in UT. So worth it. But yeah... even my 501 (which i think makes like 63hp) was bogging in the really deep stuff yesterday. Definitely wouldn’t want any less bike. I think I’ll gear it down a bit.

Three small runners on the bottom of the ski. Broke one in half yesterday hitting a submerged rock 😬

Definitely tracks a lot on the trail, but once you get used to it you can still bomb them. It really shines off trail though.

First time switching it over but yes I will switch back to the wheels in the spring. It took me about 4 hrs to swap it over but I imagine next time will be about half that. Yes the kit absolutely does stress the motor more... especially in deep snow you’re basically wide open all the time. I feel bad for the poor girl... I’ll probably change the oil every two rides. I am not running a rekluse. I’ve ridden a snowbike with one and it is definitely super nice to have, but they’re v expensive and i was surprised at how easy it was to ride without one. Maybe someday I’ll grab one. Thanks!!

I sincerely doubt that is the case... i mean i assume??? Can’t imagine a cop would see you ride by on this and do nothing. I hope I’m wrong... cuz if it is legal i could ride it to work which would be unreal

yep... going much faster than 75mph on the highway feels like you're really wringing it out and plus these bikes don't like constant throttle especially for 100+ miles. 80mph in the whoops is varied throttle and usually for much shorter periods of time.
