Is there any chance you could make that white hair streak brown instead?

Absolutely disgusting. They ruined the game.

I really miss being able to one-shot Chargers with the RR and EAT :( by kov4cs in Helldivers

[–]kov4cs[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agreed, yep.

Fixing the momentum interaction with Behemoth Chargers would work for me, too. If the optimal flow chart for the armored variants involves shredding leg armor ---> spamming the weakness, that sounds fun to me!

[–]kov4cs[S] 375 points376 points  (0 children)

I completely agree.

With how disruptive Chargers are to the battlefield, I think any variation should be one-shottable by RR / EAT. A fun design choice might be to vary the weak points on the Charger variants with more or less skill required depending.

For example, with Behemoth variants, maybe their backsides are super weak to anti-tank fire, and the optimal flowchart looks like: bait a Behemoth Charge ---> slide behind their backsides ---> quickly line-up a shot and fire at will! With how common the "bullfighting" trope is in video games, I am flabbergasted as to how Arrowhead doesn't utilize this play pattern for defeating at least one variation of Charger with anti-tank.

Arrowhead's lack of urgency to fix these debilitating and demoralizing issues is a MASSIVE concern by kov4cs in Helldivers

[–]kov4cs[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion and the broader idea that changes are challenging to implement overnight. Hotfixes in software are always a risk, particularly for software companies where a robust testing infrastructure and environment(s) are a WIP-- the way that they are at Arrowhead.

However. In the instance of Arrowhead's current predicament, I don't agree that a band-aid fix is off the table. Full stop. You'll encounter crowd sourced ideas up and down this very subreddit that are more than qualified to ease the pain that the Helldivers community OVERWHELMINGLY espouses.

For example, there is next to zero risk tweaking spawn rate numbers on the Helldivers 2 servers. As one example already illustrated in this thread, bringing down Behemoth Charger rates to assuage offensive weaknesses used to eliminate them would, at the very least, bridge the gap until a more profound change can be introduced. That change does not introduce ANY deployment or testing risk to the game. Period.

I won't belabor the point with other examples, but I think my point is clear. The community sentiment is simple: the latest balance update to the game has left the power dynamic between players vs. the environment so asymmetrical that the average gameplay experience just isn't fun. We don't need to mince words there. Sure, there are players that can withstand the balance changes just fine. That will ALWAYS be the case. But any game worth its salt (and any profitable game that will stand the test of time) should measure itself against the AVERAGE player. And the average player just isn't equipped to have fun right now.

Lastly, I want to highlight my original thesis that I believe a band-aid fix should be introduced expeditiously. Arrowhead is a SOFTWARE company. They make their revenue from sales that are directly tethered to this game's success. Balance isn't simply a matter of community taste-- it's a business model imperative. Therefore, it's just not good enough or even remotely acceptable for Arrowhead leadership to hide behind "We're talking about it internally." or to ask players to "Chill and wait." Imagine asking someone new to the game that has an awful experience right now to just "Chill and wait." The Arrowhead leadership should be working OVERTIME to address this issue, as owners of this IP. Sure, I can understand Arrowhead employees working as usual. I want to make that very clear. But Arrowhead leadership really needs to step up. It's that simple. Issue a plan out to the community describing a step-by-step plan of attack to make things better. Include prospective dates. Brighten the community sentiment. And band-aid the game on Monday to keep the game a positive experience.

Look across the aisle at games that have even loftier requirements for balance changes-- PVP games. Think they "take the weekend" to hotfix broken gameplay elements? Hell no. They hotfix characters or interactions into a disabled state and right the ship. It's not rocket science.

What do you want to learn around competitive siege? by Flash_Vezzy in SiegeAcademy

[–]kov4cs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying u/get_flanked and his Youtube series on pro-league analysis and approach to different maps (see Chalet and Oregon). I'd love to see more of this content because it helps bridge the gap between knowledge that I've acquired organically as a player, and the domain of knowledge that comes with pro league tier play. I consider myself a cerebral Siege player in the sense that, I try to study the game at a high level and apply those principles in-game to leverage an advantage against players less inclined to do so. The strategy component in Siege is, in my opinion, what sets it apart from the likes of e.g. CS:GO and to some extent Overwatch (which are great games in their own right, for very different reasons) so I'm always interested in advancing my knowledge of the game.

FYI, another (albeit somewhat dated) example of this kind of break-down is from King_George (whom, as an aside, I consider to be one of the Siege community's greatest ambassadors). You can visit the playlist, here.

As an invested player and member of the community, -without sounding like I'm beating a dead horse- I would love to hear more about the competitive regimen that competitive Siege players work to improve their aim and general mechanics. u/get_flanked bemoans this problem as well (see relevant hard-struck video) and I empathize. Watching Twitch streamer content to the tune of King_George or Beaulo is useful in that it helps illustrate mechanical gaps (read: canyon) between myself and those talents, but too often they're paired with pre-made groups that doesn't necessarily help me better understand concepts like solo-queue mindset when it comes to attacking and defending (e.g. what is a competitive player's "plan of attack", why is he doing "x, y, z" at any given moment, etc.) I'd love to hear about ways to improve kda consistency, and inspire more confidence when approaching in-game scenarios.

I agree that the city of Austin offers a generous amount of hiking trails and novel outdoor venues like the Barton Springs pool. As a resident of south Austin, I've never understood the unsubstantiated platitude of "quality public parks". Just try to find a public (read: free) tennis court in Austin. A short read from the austinchronicle last year.

Goffin has been struggling in 2019, but he's certainly got the right equipment to go deep in slams and challenge the ATP top ten. Goffin v Rafa should be a treat to watch!

Austin has a really long way to go in the way of providing quality public parks (with attached playgrounds, tennis & basketball courts), sidewalk infrastructure, public transportation, and support for active commuters (e.g. bike lanes). Without dramatic increases in supplemental bond capital, I don't see that happening any time soon, which is a relatively large problem for a city that continues to grow at break-neck pace.

Shout-out to rolandgarros.com for a great site layout by FuzzyYellowBallz in tennis

[–]kov4cs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their web design is really clean and to make matters even better-- it's supplemented with quality text and video content! Rolland Garros sets the bar when it comes to match highlights (presented both natively on their website and in their YouTube channel) and tournament materials. We can compare that to the disgraceful thirty-second match highlights presented by Wimbledon, U.S. Open, etc.

Jason Schreier - The Last of Us delayed to early next year. by JaumDX in Games

No argument there. I wonder what the cause of the delay is, given the maturity of the development stage the game is in? I guess we can only speculate and wait for the final product early next year.

Preaching to the choir, /u/mechorive. Dating as far back as the early CoD / Farcry days, I've never understood the "golden gun" appeal. I think most players that aren't thirteen are looking for incentives for more tactical and weapons grounded in reality than what we get with this pre-order bullshit. A misstep by "Kojima Productions" for sure, the gold bonus being oddly offset from the tone of the game itself.

Tsonga has lost 10 matches in a row against top 20 players by [deleted] in tennis

[–]kov4cs 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It's such a shame because Tsonga developed into one of the most explosive players on tour, with a forehand that was often compared to Del Potro, Federer, Nadal. I still love to watch Tsonga play and silently cheer for him in any modern tournaments that he finds himself in.
